The Nikon Z f has the same battery, assuming this would work but just want to clarify that this is compatible with the Z f?

Hi. I got this battery and I tested it on my Zf. Electronically, it works perfectly well, identically to Nikon's batteries. However, there are some tolerance issue. The battery is ever so slightly thicker than Nikon's and the battery opening in the Nikon Zf is very tight. When I try release the battery, it barely moves out and I need a thin object (like a pen) to grab on to it and pull it out. I don't own a Z8, so I don't know what the issue there (though I assume that the tolerances there are tighter than the Z6/Z7 as well). Eventually, it's your call on whether you want to risk this inconvenience. BTW, so far the battery seems to be holding charge quite well in comparison to Nikon's battery, so overall I'm pleased despite its thickness issue.

From the photographs, I assume this battery cannot be recharged via a USB C power source. Right?

The Manfrotto Professional Lithium-Ion Battery for Select Nikon Cameras (7V, 2400mAh) is charged using the same methods as your Nikon EN-EL15c is charged. Neither the Manfrotto nor the Nikon batteries have a USB connection.

500 cycles seems low for modern Li batteries. Surely my Nikon OEMs have gone through a lot more cycles and are OK. Am I wrong?

You are not wrong. I definitely recommend getting the original Nikon battery whenever possible.
