Sony ECM-L1 Overview

Pro-Quality Lavalier Mic with Plug-In Power
Offering the professional performance of the ECM-77 in a more durable, compact, and plug-in powered form factor, the Sony ECM-L1 is an omnidirectional lavalier mic ideal for creators and pro video applications. The ECM-L1 delivers high-quality sound and durability thanks to a brass capsule, ceramic back plate, and thick OFC cable.

The capsule of the ECM-L1, which borrows its design from the ECM-77, offers clear, crisp sound with a quick response. With plug-in power, rather than external power, the ECM-L1 is compatible with a wide range of common recording devices, from camera systems like Sony's own α and FX series to portable recorders and smartphones. The common 3.5mm screw-lock plug provides further compatibility and reliability to avoid accidental pullouts. Highly compact and featuring a discreet black finish, the ECM-L1 is easy to hide on clothing during shoots.

Superb Sound Inherited from ECM-77
The ECM-L1 inherits the technology of the ECM-77 to achieve high sound quality and rugged dependability. The capsule is enclosed in a machined brass casing to suppress unwanted external resonance and provide clear, crisp sound. The ceramic backplate offers a quick response and high-resolution sound with low noise.
High-Purity OFC Cable
The oxygen-free copper (OFC) cable reduces signal transmission loss. By producing a very high-purity OFC cable, the ECM-L1 provides outstanding audio recording without sacrificing audio quality.
Highly Reliable and Durable
The robust brass enclosure around the microphone capsule offers physical protection, resisting deformation and damage during use. The 2.2mm-thick OFC cable is resistant to bending and tensile stress while being difficult to disconnect, ensuring the ECM-L1 will stand up to the rigors of productions.
Plug-In Power for Flexibility
Unlike the related ECM-77, the ECM-L1 offers plug-in power, allowing it to be compatible with many different recording devices. Sony α and FX-series cameras as well as any other cameras with 3.5mm inputs and plug-in power, will work perfectly. You can also use the ECM-L1 with many kinds of wireless receivers or bodybacks, field recorders, smartphones, and much more; as long as the device can provide plug-in power.

The Sony ECM-L1 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (BH # SOECML1) will connect to a wireless transmitter that supports plug-in power on a 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS female microphone input. The Sony UWP-D21 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (UC14: 470 to 542 MHz), B&H # SOUWPD2114 would be an excellent choice.

Is this mic compatible with the Sony UWP D-11 and/or D-12 lav system?

According to this Sony support note the ECM-L1 (which is wire for plugin power) is not compatible with the UTX transmitters in the UWP(-D) series. Quoting: "it cannot be used due to differing electrical signal specifications. Similarly, plug-in power-compatible microphones other than ECM-L1 can't be used" I did a Google search for Sony ecm-l1 compatible utx and I reached a Sony support note.

The ECM-L1 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone should be fully compatible as long as the Sony Camera has a 3.5mm input.
