OM SYSTEM 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye PRO Reviews
A very fun lens
I borrowed this lens from a friend of mine before purchasing one. Really fun lens but it takes a bit of experimentation to get used to. The camera I use (OM-1), has a computational-photography fisheye lens correction setting that can be turned on and off. On my camera I’ve assigned it to the ISO button. When turned on, straight lines in the image (for example corners in a room) will appear as straight lines in the image. When turned off, they will appear as bulging curves. When taking pictures of people, you generally want this off and when taking pictures off architecture, you want it on. However, the RAW images will be un processed. You can apply the correction in the OM workspace. I’ve gotten some really fun pictures of people. There’s an animated quality that a normal lens doesn’t capture. It can capture a whole room in one image which is so nice. My main criticism is that its focus can be a bit soft. However, I think this is due to the fact that it’s such an extreme lens. I haven’t tried doing night sky photography with it. I can’t wait to try it out on some northern lights and the milky way.
