MSI X870-P WiFi Overview

Designed with professionals in mind, the MSI PRO X870-P WIFI AM5 ATX Motherboard provides a foundation for content creation performance. Supporting AMD 7000, 8000, and 9000 series processors with the AM5 socket, this motherboard can be outfitted to smoothly handle demanding applications and AI-enhanced workloads.

MSI's EZ technology makes it easy to install one M.2 PCIe 5.0 SSD and two PCIe 4.0 drives to store your games library, applications, and important files. Four DDR5 DIMM slots are available for up to 256GB of memory, which may be overclocked for higher performance. With one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 4.0 x16 (x4) slot, and two PCIe 3.0 x16 (x1) slots, you can add a graphics card and other compatible expansions.

The rear panel features a USB4 port that can transfer up to 40 Gb/s with compatible devices or connect a USB-C compatible 8K display. A second USB-C port works with 20 Gb/s devices, and there are two 10 Gb/s compatible USB-A ports. You can reserve the two 5 Gb/s USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports and the four USB 2.0 ports for peripherals such as mice, keyboards, and webcams. An internal header allows you to use a 10 Gb/s USB-C port on the front panel. Built-in Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) support with a magnetic antenna and a 5 Gb/s Ethernet port provide you with connections to compatible network devices for smooth video streaming and low-latency online games. Windows 11 64-bit is required to take advantage of all the motherboard's features.

  • Config TDP is designed to provide an ECO Mode (65W) or a different TDP (PPT/TDC/EDC) setting for advanced users.
  • DDR5 Memory Support
High-performance DDR5 memory works with a dedicated SMT welding process and MSI Memory Boost technology to deliver exceptional performance.
    Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS)
Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) are safety devices used to protect against excessive voltage. All motherboard models of MSI are equipped with TVS. When the voltage abnormally rises, the TVS switches from a high-resistance state to a low-resistance state, diverting the excessive voltage to ground. This helps prevent circuit damage caused by high voltage.
    Wi-Fi 7
Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) introduces higher speeds, wider channels, improved efficiency, and reduced latency over Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), with maximum speeds of up to 5.8 Gb/s. Utilizing 320 MHz on the 6 GHz band ensures reliability during simultaneous transmissions at max speeds and the 4096 QAM boosts peak transmission rates and network capacity. Multi-Link Operation enables devices to simultaneously send and receive data across several frequency bands and channels to meet traffic demands and the growing number of wireless devices.

    MSI X870-P WiFi Reviews

Decent but system is still not finished

The port that is meant to connect the motherboard to the USB3 header on front (On top in my case) may be out of spec, when it was plugged in, it became lodged to the headers plug so it cannot be removed. The plastic component of the motherboards port did however manage to completely separate from the board in the efforts to remove the cable, which we were fortunately able to reattach. It appears likely the only way to remove it will involve cutting it off of the cable's plug, an option I do not wish to attempt at this time. I would recommend making sure such cables are properly routed before install as you may not have another chance. That event will be added to the review of the case as well, as which side is out of spec can no longer be identified while the two components are so thoroughly attached. No further evidence of damage is evident in this matter. There are a few other issues, but I can't tell if the board is at fault or if there is an external or software issue involving them, but I will list the issues below, and alter them later should a solution be found. Bluetooth worked for a while then stopped connecting to an XBOX controller. Once the next problem is solved I'll try further troubleshooting 2 sets of RAM connected sequentially have suffered a 75% failure rate. I am presently operating on an assumption all the failed RAM were likely faulty, as the model is listed on MSI's website as being compatible with this board, though this does not silence the doubts. Will replace the most recent set with a different brand and see if the replacement fails too.
