Lens Design
Weighing less than 3 lb and measuring 10.1", the lens design is optimized for handheld use. The 5.5 stops of optical image stabilization further aids handheld use by compensating for camera shake. In situations where extra stability is required, the tripod collar foot is Arca-type compatible for use with tripods and monopods.
The optical design comprises five extra-low dispersion elements and two super extra-low dispersion elements, which help to reduce distortions and color aberrations typically found in lenses of this length. The 21-element, 14-group optical design delivers the sharpness and clarity necessary when shooting with 40.2MP X-series sensors, while the rounded, 9-blade diaphragm delivers a smooth and rounded bokeh that's further augmented by the spatial compression inherent in super telephoto focal lengths.
Linear Motor Autofocus
A Linear Motor autofocus system delivers fast, accurate, and near-silent performance that's further enhanced by the subject detection algorithms in X-series cameras. Additionally, the lens includes presets designed to minimize focus times, ideal for stopping quick-moving subjects.

Super light weight prime lens for walking around the trails. The lens pairs really well with X-H2S. The camera lens combo is good for fast moving song birds and the light weight helps hand hold and track better. I also shoot with Canon R1 and Rf 600mm F4 lens. The image sharpness and detail and obviously the color science in Fuji Film is phenomenal. I don't see any big difference in sharpness compared to my Canon 600mm F4. It is just 1 stop slower and a lot easier to lug around in the trails.
The seagull image is a crop from an inflight shot. The sparrow was shot through a not so clean glass door. The videos through this lens are also phenomenal!

I have had the 100-400 mm for 4 years and have rented the 150-600mm twice. The 500 mm prime in my opinion is sharper than the 100-400mm and obviously better in low light than the 150-600mm. I use it primarily for bird photography with my X-T4 and love it!

Does this lens take filters with "coarse" threads, such as the Tiffen 95mm Clear Uncoated Filter (Coarse Threads)?

Is it worth the upgrade from a 150-600mm - primary use case being bird and wildlife photography?

The Fujifilm 500mm 5.6 lens has faster focusing, is better for low-light shooting at dusk/dawn, and is optically a sharper quality lens than the Fujifilm 150-600mm lens. The only disadvantage would be the lack of zoom versatility but overall it is an upgrade.
