Pentax HD PENTAX D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Lens

Pairing a versatile zoom range with a fast, constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, the HD PENTAX D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Lens is a telephoto zoom designed for Pentax K-mount DSLRs. Offering a 105-300mm-equivalent focal length range with APS-C cameras, this lens is particularly well-suited to sports, landscape, and wildlife uses, especially when working in trying light conditions. Extra-low dispersion glass elements have been incorporated within the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions, as well as produce a high degree of sharpness from edge-to-edge. HD and Aero Bright coatings have also been applied to lens elements to reduce reflections and flare and a Super Protect coating also helps to shield the front and rear elements from dust, water, and oils. Further enabling its use in difficult conditions, this 70-200mm f/2.8 also features a weather-resistant construction with 13 separate seals to block moisture and dust from entering the lens.

In regard to focusing, a DC autofocus motor realizes fast and quiet performance and is accentuated by the Quick-Shift Focus System for changing between AF and MF control by simply turning the focusing ring. Additionally, a removable, rotating tripod collar is included with the lens for more even balance when shooting atop a tripod.

One of the most versatile zoom ranges, this 70-200mm lens provides a 105-300mm equivalent focal length range when used with Pentax APS-C DSLRs.
A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture delivers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and is particularly beneficial to creating shallow depth of field imagery.
Extra-low dispersion glass elements are incorporated within the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and produce high image clarity with edge-to-edge sharpness.
High Definition (HD) and Aero Bright coatings have been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting in order to deliver greater contrast and color fidelity. Additionally, a Super Protect (SP) coating also helps to protect the surface of exposed elements from fingerprints, water, dust, and oils and also makes the front and rear elements easier to clean.
A Direct Current (DC) autofocus motor benefits from an internal focusing design and delivers fast, smooth, and quiet focusing performance.
The Quick-Shift Focus System allows you to first use autofocus to acquire general focus on a subject, then instantly refine your focus position manually without the need for an AF/MF selector.
A focus range limiter allows you to constrain the lens' focus range between different sets of distances for faster performance and greater responsiveness.
The weather-resistant construction utilizes 13 distinct seals to prevent moisture or dust from entering the lens.
A removable, rotating tripod collar is included with the lens for better balance when shooting atop a tripod.

Pentax 9x32 A-Series AD WP Binoculars

Pentax's 9x32 A-Series AD WP Binoculars feature exciting transitional magnification that produces an enhanced viewing experience over a lower power without the visible hand-shake often associated with higher magnifications. Their 32mm objectives bring in more light than smaller compact optics without being too bulky or heavy, weighing in at just over one pound. The BAK4 roof prisms are phase-corrected to improve image contrast and enhance color rendition. All of the optics are anti-reflection fully multicoated to maximize light transmission to produce the brightest views possible.

To help cut weight, the binoculars are designed with an open bridge, which also provides a larger grip-area for steadier views. The housing is made of corrosion and impact-resistant fiberglass reinforced polycarbonate polymer. They are also temperature-resistant allowing for their use in extreme climates while reducing expansion and contraction wide temperature swings can cause which can make the optical components move out of collimation over time. Their optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed, so they can be submersed to as much as 3.3', as well as be fogproof in all weather conditions.

Pentax D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Reviews

The wide and telephoto have differing AF points.

I bought the limited silver edition when it was on sale. Noticed that when I calibrated the FA for the wide position it was +5, and the Tele end was a -7. Seemed excessive so I sent it to Pentax Service (Precision Camera) under warranty thinking they could adjust it like Sigma does with their focus tuning dock. Precision Camera sent it to Japan for replacement. Japan replaced it with a cheaper black version (Their warranty option.) that had a little better or tolerable AF difference between the wide and tele zoom ends, but overall it was softer than the original that I sent in if I adjusted that zooms AF tuning points manually each time. Pentax should offer a Wide and Tele AF Tuning in their camera bodies for zoom lenses like other manufacturers do which would have addressed this matter.

question

How was your experience for using it on Pentax 645z camera?
Asked by: Bobby
While 645z is a Pentax DSLR camera, too, the lens is designed for Pentax K DSLRs, i.e. recent APS-C cameras and a FF K-1). The lens is not compatible with 645z.

question

does either focusing or zooming change the length of the lens?
Asked by: David I.
The lens would offer internal focus and zoom, which would not change the length of the lens.

question

I really love my K3 and do pet photography with it. I need a good zoom that's quick on AF. The Pentax smc PENTAX-DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM Lens just doesn't autofocus quickly enough. The web page for this new Pentax 70-200 says The Quick-Shift Focus System allows you to first use autofocus to acquire general focus on a subject, then instantly refine your focus position manually without the need for an AF/MF selector. Is this Pentax again not being able to pinpoint focus the way Canon, Nikon, Tamron and Sigma seem capable of, or do we have a genuine capability here for instant lock on moving objects equivalent to say the Tamron 70-200?
Asked by: Anonymous
Well, Pentax AF is not that fast and accurate. DFA 70-200 is twice slower than Nikon and Canon 70-200 base on the test. AF-C is still not possible for accurate and sharp images. If you are a fast user, then Pentax is not your camera.

question

Under listed specs, only ASP-C is the compatible format. I thought FA lenses were native 35mm format. Is the information posted re compatibility accurate?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is a full frame lens. but it is COMPATIBLE with APS-C. You can view a video on the most popular video streaming website with this lens being used with a K3 - the results are great!
