Tilta ES-T22-SPB Reviews

Flawed rosette mount to baseplate

The rosettes should be hard mounted to the baseplate. Instead Tilta created a poor-man’s inset, anti-twist notch and designed the rosettes to attach using only a single small Allen screw. Thusly, all the camera weight presses on the handgrips which are affixed to the single-screw rosettes. A design recipe for failure.

Poor Rosette Mount Design

The overall build and quality of this baseplate is fine and I appreciate the modularity and universality of it with the Manfrotto and VCT release options. The biggest flaw is the Rosette mount design. When I received my unit the left hand rosette mount itself was a bit loose after attaching an arm to it. I tightened the screw that attaches the mount to the baseplate and it didn’t seem to lock in any better. After removing the rosette mount from the baseplate all together, I saw that there were some metal shavings in the threaded hole. I promptly returned the unit and purchased a replacement. After building out the rig and taking it out on 2, pretty basic, test shoots the right arm began to wiggle. Upon further inspection the same thing happened to my second unit that happened with the first. The metal shavings that are present seem to be some sort of wire thread insert from the factory. Unfortunately since the mounts don’t lock in fully, there is some wiggle room that wears the insert down with very minimal use. Eventually the threads don’t lock in at all rendering the rosette mount useless.

Will this baseplate receive a Tilta Dovetail Plate BH #TIC16BLK on top?
Asked by: Mauro
No, the Tilta Quick Release Shoulder Pad Baseplate for Canon C400 will not receive the Tilta 10" Lightweight Standard Dovetail Plate (Black) on top because the top receives a Manfrotto style QR plate designed for the Tilta C400 kits.

Can the rear NATO rail at the back be removed so the 15mm rail system is unobstructed?
Asked by: Eric
The NATO rail is attached to the 15mm rod clamps, so in order to mount rods in the rear, you would need that whole piece including the NATO rail to be installed.

Does this product come with the plate that attaches the camera to the baseplate?
Asked by: Sean
No, the Tilta Quick Release Shoulder Pad Baseplate for Canon C400 does not included a camera mounting plate, as the intention is that the shoulder pad will be paired with the Tilta Camera Cage for Canon C400 (Base Kit), BH #TIEST22A, which has the base plate built into the base of the cage. Should you not want to use the cage, you can purchase the camera plate separately as well, it is the Tilta Manfrotto-Style Universal Quick Release Plate (Black), BH #TITAUQRPMF.
