The build quality of the NiSi JetMag Pro filters is excellent. They feel well made, durable, and the optical performance has been great for landscape photography. However, after using them in the field, especially while hiking, I’ve found the magnetic system has some drawbacks that make me question the convenience compared to traditional screw-on filters. I’m used to screw-on filters, and I’ve found myself fumbling more than expected when changing or adding filters. Trying to hold the lens, manage the filter holder, and select the correct filter from the stack can be awkward, especially outdoors when you’re trying to work quickly. Having multiple filters together sounds convenient, but in practice it can be cumbersome. My biggest concern is security. On two separate hikes, a filter came loose and fell off while I was walking. You have to be extremely careful to make sure the filters are fully locked into position, or you risk them coming off and potentially losing them. I especially would not recommend these filters for anyone who hikes or walks with their camera hanging across their body, where the lens naturally bumps against your clothing or gear. That repeated contact can put pressure on the filter and increases the chance of it coming loose. During my most recent hike, my CPL fell off without me noticing. I didn’t realize it was missing until I was ready to take another photo. My heart sank. I ended up backtracking about a quarter mile, carefully retracing every step, and thankfully I was able to find it. For someone who does a lot of hiking and landscape photography, reliability and peace of mind are extremely important. While I appreciate the quality and innovation of the NiSi JetMag Pro system, the risk of losing an expensive filter in the backcountry is a major drawback for me. If I could return them, I would. Thankfully, I never sold my PolarPro screw-on filters, and I’ll likely continue using those for my hiking and adventure photography where dependability matters most.

Excelent Filters; Eye-watering Prices

These NiSi JetMag Pro filters offer excellent IQ—though at exhorbitant prices. Their advantage over a B+W equivalent is not IQ; it is convenience. When determining what you're willing to pay for that convenience be sure to ask yourself if you want to constantly screw on and off one shared adapter as you switch lenses or keep an adapter on each lens. If it is the latter, you'll want to add $22 for each adapter and $40 (!) each additional lens cap. If you prefer to keep an ND filter on each lens, add $85 per ND too, unless you want to attach the JetMag adapter to a screw-on filter. This is a perfectly reasonable strategy if it doesn't create vignetting issues for your particular lens. Also worth mentioning to those who use lens hoods: You will not be using them with these filters. It's one or the other. NiSi's kits do very little to improve the value proposition. For someone who only needs a single adapter ring size, the most a kit will save you is $75 (Cinema Kit). In two cases (Capture and Black Mist Kits), it is actually more expensive to buy the kit than purchasing separately unless you will use at least three of the adapter rings. That's a little disappointing. The clear takeaway for those who don't want to do the math is that if there is a filter included in a kit that you don't need, don't buy the kit thinking it's "free". In no case, do you save more than the cost of NiSi's least expensive JetMag Pro filter. The savings offered by this Landscape Kit is $25.93. (Note that my calculations are accurate as of the date of this review and are based on the cost of the 82MAG size.) None of this is to suggest that this NiSi filter set isn't perfect for your use case. There's no denying the convenience of a magnetic filter set, and the NiSi version is very good. Compared to the popular Kase kits, the NiSi offers marginally better IQ and an easier way to separate the filters from each other. On the other hand, the Kase filters work with lens hoods and overall better value. There's no perfect choice for everyone.

The NiSi JetMag Pro 82MAG Landscape ND Magnetic Filter Kit (B&H# NIMJM82MLNDK) can be secured to the front of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S Lens (B&H# NIZ14304) using the included (with the filter kit) NiSi JetMag Pro 82MAG Magnetic Filter Adapter Ring (82mm) (B&H# NIMJM82MAD82). Speaking generally, the use of any ultra wide lens (or zoom lens set to an ultra wide focal length such as 14mm) will produce some vignetting if paired with any ND filter, and especially with any variable ND or CPL filter as the latter two are comparatively thick. This is due to the fact that light entering the lens from the most extreme off-axis angles must travel through a physically thicker (diagonal) cross section of the filter's element in order to reach the lens to which it's attached. Moreover, in the case of a CPL filter, polarization related to beam and light angles also plays a part. In the end, there will be some vignetting in any case with any filter when paired with an ultra wide focal length lens. However, in the specific case of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S Lens (B&H# NIZ14304) that will be a mostly "natural" vignette in the sense that the 104.3 horizontal angle of view (HAOV) of a 14mm lens on a full frame camera makes some amount of vignetting unavoidable. Even if a "natural" vignette (which can easily be eliminated in software anyway) is present, there is no reason for concern as our usual 30-day return policy does apply to this product: https://bit.ly/4rhOfoc

Yes, the base for the NiSi JetMag Pro 82MAG Landscape ND Magnetic Filter Kit screws onto the front of the lens. All magnetic filters have a screw on base.

The front diameter of the NiSi JetMag Pro 82MAG Landscape ND Magnetic Filter Kit is 95mm. The 2 metal grips on the filter expand out to a 100mm diameter. If you are using a bayonet lens hood, you will need to make sure you get enough clearance for 100mm. This filter does not have any front threads; therefore, you will not be able to add on a lens hood to the front.

The NiSi JetMag Pro 82MAG Landscape ND Magnetic Filter Kit is very thin even with the adapter. But a 15mm full-frame lens is very wide. It will depend on the specific lens. It should be okay for 2-3 filters at the most.
