LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20III Overview

LightPix Labs introduces the FlashQ Q20III Manual Flash as the third generation of the FlashQ Q20 series – with the same reliability and improved features. Still compact and lightweight, the Q20III comes with an all-new diffuser panel, a color gel holder with seven different color gels, and a convenient USB-C interface (instead of the previous micro-USB port). Furthermore, the Q20III has an additional lamp indication for flash and video modes to enable a more intuitive experience. This cost-efficient, manual-exposure lighting solution still offers advanced triggering and control features. The flash weighs just 4 oz and measures 4 x 2.3 x 1.1", making it easy to squeeze into tight places where larger units can't go.

The Must-Have Flash Unit
With a guide number of 65.6' at ISO 100, the Q20III has manual power selection from 1/64 to full power, runs on two separately available alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries, and will recycle to full power in six to seven seconds depending on the batteries in use. Only rechargeable NiMH batteries support USB-C charging.
All-New Diffuser Panel & Color Gel Holder
The upgraded Q20III flash is packed with a color gel holder to expand your possibilities. Easily attach and remove the gels in seven different colors to get the light color you're looking for. The diffuser panel is another valuable addition to the Q20III body.
Detachable Transmitter Design
One of the flash's clever features is the RF transmitter built into its removable foot and the receiver built into the body of the unit. By detaching the transmitter and mounting the flash head remotely on a light stand, you can adjust power and trigger it from the on-camera transmitter at distances up to 33'.
Manual Flash Power Control
The Q20III allows you set the flash output from 1/64 (minimum output) to 1/1 (maximum output). These seven steps of flash power ratios can be adjusted by two buttons.
Remote Triggering Power Level Adjustment
The Q20III functions like a typical on-camera flash while attached to the included shoe-mount FlashQ transmitter. Detaching the flash puts it into wireless mode allowing it to be used off-camera. Wireless triggering and power level adjustment can then be accomplished via the camera-mounted transmitter. The Q20III's FlashQ System can support up to eight remote Q20III flashes simultaneously.
USB -C Charging
This third generation was developed with a USB-C interface to allow charging from standard USB power sources, such as your computer or USB adapters. It requires the use of two separately available rechargeable NiMH batteries on the light body. The transmitter can be conveniently charged via its USB-C port as well.
Rectangular Shape
The 4 x 2.3 x 1.1" flash is easy to squeeze into tight spaces.
LED Video / Modeling Light
The Q20III features a 5500K LED light with seven output levels for use as a modeling light or as a video light with a high CRI of 95. The LED light outputs up to 60 lux at 3.3' and has a 60-minute run time with NiMH batteries.
Tripod or Light Stand Mount
Built-in female 1/4"-20 threads allow the Q20III to be mounted on a tripod or light stand.
Tilting Head
The Q20III can tilt in 0, 45, 60, 75, and 90° click stops.
Compatibility
The Q20III is also compatible with other FlashQ triggers and flashes models, including the Q20 and Q20II units. Both USB-C ports on the flash body and transmitter support sync cord connection.

LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20III Reviews

So, so fragile.

These little things are great, modular little flashes with good power – they're especially great for smaller, leaf-shutter cameras like the Ricoh GR series, Fuji X100 series, Leica Q series. Unfortunately, they are fragile as can be and never last more than a few months before wigging out, even with very light use. I've gone through three in the past 6 months, and even this most recent III edition (love the USB-C charging for the trigger), it didn't last more than a month before it was just DOA for no apparent reason – no drops, no trauma of any kind, no contact with liquid. I got maybe 75 flashes off the thing before... RIP. Handy, fun little tool but just unacceptably fragile.

Do Not Buy

I purchased this product based on a recommendation from a B&H customer. Unfortunately, after just two days of use, it stopped responding entirely. Adjusting the light's power also became non-functional, despite the fact that the device was never dropped or mishandled. Hoping my initial unit was defective, I bought a second one, but the same issues occurred. Extremely disappointed—this will be my last time purchasing this product.
