Wide 18-28mm Zoom
  • This 18-28mm zoom offers an ultrawide to more midrange reach, covering most common focal lengths.
  • The wide 100 to 73° field of view supports flexible capture.
Macro/Close Capture in Narrow Spaces
  • Craft creative macro shots using a maximum magnification ratio of 2.1:1.
  • The extremely close minimum focusing distance of around 0.24" lets you get super tight coverage of your subject.
  • The large depth of field and wide-angle focal length combine to enable close-ups in constricted areas while maintaining a safe distance from your subject.
Low-Distortion, High-Resolution Optics
  • The optical design has both ED (extra-low dispersion) and high-refractive index elements, suppressing chromatic and spherical aberrations.
  • Advanced coatings help minimize flaring and reflections.
  • Incorporates seven HRI (high-refractive-index) lens elements, producing more natural color.
  • ±2% distortion control across the zoom range.
T8 Maximum Aperture
  • The relatively fast T8 maximum aperture is maintained throughout the zoom range.
  • Multilayer, antireflective coatings help ensure sharp, clear images even when shooting wide open.
Waterproof, Cine-Style Design
  • Focus, iris, and zoom functions all have 0.8 MOD cine-style gears for compatibility with follow focus and lens motor systems.
  • A lightweight yet rear-heavy design helps reduce vibrations while shooting.
  • The focus barrel offers a wide 300° rotation for precise focus pulls.
  • Waterproof and dustproof, this probe lens is also scratch and fog resistant.

The Results Speak for Themselves

I don’t throw praise around lightly but the DZOFILM 18–28mm T8 X-TRACT is kind of ridiculous. I’m not a macro purist or lab-coat pixel peeper. I’ve been shooting for 10+ years: photography, YouTube, personal projects and I lead creative at TikTok. I did the homework before buying this thing. It checks every box. Real productions are using it. And once you get it in your hands, you understand why. The build quality is honestly out of control for the price. It feels like a serious piece of cinema glass, not a gimmick. The mechanics are smooth, precise, confidence-inspiring. No weird surprises. And the images? They speak for themselves. Clean, sharp, controlled, but still with character. Zero complaints so far. If you’re on the fence; stop overthinking it. This lens delivers.

Fun lens. Subpar image quality

As a working DP shooting mostly table top commercial work, I picked up the DZO probe zoom hoping for a versatile macro tool that could handle tight product shots. Build quality and waterproofing are solid, and the zoom range is genuinely useful in confined setups. That said, the image quality falls off hard at macro distances (especially when pushing toward 2:1 or getting within inches of the subject), Softness creeps in across the frame, contrast drops noticeably, and there's visible chromatic aberration that isn't present at normal working distances. Stopped down to T11–T16 it improves somewhat, but never reaches the crisp look I expect from a modern cine probe. As someone who's logged plenty of hours with various probe lenses over the years, this is a bit disappointing. It's great for moderate macro or when you need the zoom flexibility in less demanding scenarios, but at true macro ranges the optics don't hold up to professional scrutiny. Hoping Dzo can address this in future upgrades.—right now it's more of a creative tool than a reliable workhorse.

Is the tube of DZOX1828A also interchangable? Can I purchase the 0-degree version and later purchase additional tubes?
Asked by: Wenyang
No, the DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Probe Zoom Macro Lens (0° Direct View, ARRI PL) is the fixed version of the lens, which does not feature the interchangeable probe. Are there any benefits to owning the fixed X-Tract FF Probes vs the modular?
Asked by: Andy
The fixed and detachable versions of the DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Detachable Probe Zoom with Case (0 & 360, ARRI PL, Metric) are effectively the same optically; the only difference between them is the modularity. Note that the detachable version does not have individual parts available to upgrade to a complete kit at a later date, while the fixed version would have fewer parts to keep track of if you're only using a specific focal length.

I remember X-Track was initially fixed angle rather than the interchangable design, is this the version 2 of the lens?
Asked by: Wenyang
This version of the X-Tract lens, the DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Detachable Probe Zoom Macro Lens with Case (0, 90 & 360, ARRI PL, Metric), comes with three different tubes to provide three different angles. If you wish to get the single angle version, you should purchase the DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Probe Zoom Macro Lens (0° Direct View, ARRI PL), BH # DZOX1828A.

The DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Detachable Probe Zoom Macro Lens with Case (0, 90 & 360, ARRI PL, Metric) is modular, where the lens base detaches to be used on either of the three probes, while with the DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Probe Zoom Macro Lens (0, 90 & 360°, ARRI PL), the lens base is fixed.
