Great little router/switch

Mikrotik makes extremely versatile, reliable network boxes for a fraction of the cost of other big companies and this hex router lives up to the reputation. Keep in mind the software has a steep learning curve but also once you learn it you can have it do nearly anything you want. Routing, firewall, hardware switching, vlans - you can make it do whatever you need. This box sips power, I think 6w, and its coolest feature is that it both runs on and distributes poe. In other words you can run poe to 4 devices without needing nearby ac power and without needing to make room for 4 cables. It does have limitations, the most notable being its included 24v power supply. I bought a separate 48v 1.25a power supply so it could serve 802.3af/at. At 48v it maxes out at about 21w per port and has about 55w total power budget. So it might not work if you want numerous high powered poe devices. It isn't a thousand dollar rack mounted actively cooled switch after all. It is perfect for stuff like cameras and waps though. It is a great little box.
