Audix D6X Overview

Building upon the legacy of the venerable D6, the D6X from Audix is a dynamic cardioid instrument microphone ideal for stage and studio applications. Featuring the VLM capsule for deep lows and precise transient capture, the D6X is an optimal choice for kick drums, toms, amp cabinets, and other low-frequency instruments.

The D6X features a recessed switch that lets you select between three different filters for different voicings: Deep—retains the classic D6 performance; Balanced—offers more midrange response; and Natural—provides a more linear character with even more midrange, ideal for percussion, amp cabs, and many other instruments. The body is constructed from machined aluminum, with a steel mesh grille, black anodized body, and a transformerless design that retains signal strength, even with long cable runs. The D6X includes a mic clip and a carrying pouch.

Three Selectable Filters
The D6X introduces a recessed, no-tools-required switch that selects between three frequency response profiles:

  • Deep (bottom position): identical to the classic D6 and the most familiar starting point for a forward sound that cuts through the mix.
  • Balanced (center position): provides more midrange and upper midrange, lending itself well to a somewhat more traditional kick drum sound while retaining the impact for which the original D6 is known.
  • Natural (top position): selects a more linear response, with even more midrange and an adjusted high-end roll off. This position is geared towards experimentation on sources with a fuller range of frequency content, such as Latin percussion, guitar amp cabinets, or the lower driver of a rotary organ speaker.
VLM Dynamic Capsule
The D6X microphone features a specially tuned and optimized dynamic capsule that utilizes the famous and exclusive AUDIX VLM (Very Low Mass) diaphragm for natural sound and exceptional transient response. The capsule is designed with a cardioid polar pattern to improve isolation and feedback control.
Built for the Road
The D6X is manufactured with a precision-machined aluminum body, black anodized finish, steel mesh grille, and a reliable, high-quality XLR connector. The transformerless design, low impedance, and balanced output allow for interference-free performance, even with long cable runs.
