Studio Technologies Model 5401A Overview

When using multiple devices in any networked configuration, clocking is a primary consideration to ensure all units are synced to one another. The Model 5401A Dante Leader Clock from Studio Technologies is a dedicated leader device that operates over Dante, AES67, and ST 2110-30 applications. Supporting high-performance IEEE 1588 PTP V1 and V2 servers, Model 5401 is compatible with external word clock, video sync, and 10 MHz sources for extreme accuracy. Flexible I/O is available thanks to three dedicated Gigabit Ethernet interfaces that support independent Dante and management networks.

Configuring the Model 5401A can be done via the webpage management system, while it is handled either with a standard AC IEC cable or 12-volt DC 4-pin connection.

Versatile Applications
Whether it be for broadcast, postproduction, university audio networks, arenas, stadiums, or corporate installations, the Model 5401A is able to lead multiple devices in complex systems. And thanks to AES67 and ST 2110-30 support, non-Dante devices are still compatible.
Dedicated Dante Leader Clock
While Dante supports the use of IEEE 1588 to maintain stable timing references, actual performance can vary widely depending on the specific Dante devices in use and the overall number of devices on a network. With its temperature-stabilized internal oscillator and word clock, video reference, and 10 MHz compatibility, Model 5401A is able to hold a dedicated and stable time rate.

Several wordclock rates including 48, 96, and 192 kHz are compatible with the sync input. Meanwhile, the wordclock output supports 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 192 kHz rates. To add further timing security, PTP V1 and V2 are also supported.

Audio Tone Generator
Eight independent sine-wave tones are generated for general-purpose use. For syncing purposes, frequency and level of each sine wave is configurable for specific optimization purposes.
Flexible Networking Capability
Using the Dante Controller application, the three Ethernet ports can be selected to operate in one of the four modes: Switched, Redundant, Switched+Mgmt, and Redundant+Mgmt. This flexibility allows virtually any networking implementation to be achieved.
Operating Power
The Model 5401A allows an AC IEC cable or a 10 to 18 volt DC 4-pin XLR connected source to power the unit.
