Freewell FW-PGHB-R Overview

The PRO SSD Hub from Freewell is a universal SSD hub for smartphones that can help expand smartphone storage with support for M.2 SSDs up to 8TB, compatible with 2280, 2260, 2242, and 2230 interfaces, which is ideal for managing large data files in high-resolution recording setups. It features dedicated USB-C ports for SSD data, accessories like wireless audio, and fast 60W charging. The dedicated high-speed USB-C port enables fast 10 GB/s data transfer, ideal for handling large video files or extensive photo libraries.

The Pro SSD Hub attaches to any MagSafe-enabled smartphone with an integrated magnetic mount, and it operates in either portrait or landscape orientation. SSD units may also be mounted to the hub magnetically and then connected with the included USB-C data cable. A Bluetooth trigger acts like a camera's shutter button when mounted on the grip but can also be removed to be a wireless trigger for remote operation.

Trying for a second time to get one that works, because the design seems superior to similar products. First one had 2 problems: -big issue was the magnet that holds the hub to the handle fell off as I unboxed the unit and went to remove the hub from handle. Done. Second issue was the rubber padding on the handle grip was already peeling off. You'd think I'd just give up, but I want to find one that works; I like the design of the heat dissipation, the handle, the power of the magnets, and the accessory plugs. Once I get one that works (if), I'll update this review with the results.

Does this grip work with a Vivo x300 Pro? can I feed power to the phone while using it?

The Freewell PRO SSD Hub, B&H # FRFWPGHBR, is not compatible with the Vivo X300 Pro. At this time, FreeWell only lists compatibility for iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max or newer and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Can you guys please advise which brand and size memory have been known to work in this hub smoothly.

The Freewell PRO SSD Hub, B&H # FRFWPGHBR, is compatible with PCIe M.2 SSD drives that are 2280, 2260, 2242, and 2230 form factors. A drive such as the Samsung 2TB 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD, B&H # SAMZV9P2TOB, is an excellent option that I recommend looking into.

What filter brands is this compatible with? I ...

What filter brands is this compatible with? I assume Freewell, but what if I have Smallrig 67mm filter?

The Freewell PRO SSD Hub (BH # FRFWPGHBR) does not include a mount or holder for filters. It would be filter brand agnostic in that regard. If the rig does not interfere with the filter holder then use the Smallrig 67mm filter.
