Apollo X8 Gen 2 Good So Far

I have my Universal Audio Apollo X8 Gen 2 in a rack a few feet from my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2023) and this cable is working as it should so far. I will come back and post again if anything goes wrong.

Boy was I excited when I caught wind of an optical three-meter USB4 cable that was cheaper than Apple’s and bought it right away. It charges. It works from USB 2.0 (480 mbps) through USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 gbps). Where this cable turned out to be a resounding disappointment was when I put it to the test in Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4 v1.0 mode. It was a temperamental creature, working depending on the host and also the device connected at the other end. Over a week of testing, I was able to rule out the hubs, devices, and hosts being the problem. ✅ MacBook Pro to CalDigit Element 4 to any device; ✅ X670E motherboard (Linux) directly to any USB4/Thunderbolt device; ✅ MacBook Pro directly to any USB4/Thunderbolt device; ❌ X670E motherboard (Linux) to CalDigit Element 4 to any device. In the case where I found the setup not working, simply replacing this cable with a known working Thunderbolt 4 cable made the setup work. I’ve since obtained a different three-meter Thunderbolt 4 cable (from you-know-who) that works.

The OWC USB4 USB-C Active Optical Cable (10') will not work on a DisplayPort Alt Mode either on a monitor or a docking station.
