amaran Light Box Reviews

Clearing up rotation: Yes, the amaran Light Box 30x120 is rotatable (with a workaround)

(Question) Can the amaran Light Box 30x120 (12 x 48") be rotated? (Answer) Yes, but with a workaround (it does not feature a free-spinning rotation mechanism). Based on my hands-on experience with this item, I want to clarify how the rotation actually works. Previous answers from customers and B&H representatives are technically correct—this strip softbox is not designed to freely rotate on the fly with a simple locking knob. However, you can still rotate it 360 degrees using the included Speed Ring Adapter for Bowens mount. You do not need to buy an additional speed ring to achieve this. Here is the step-by-step workaround to rotate it: (1) Remove the entire strip softbox from your monolight. (2) Unlock the speed ring by pulling the locking lever on the adapter outward. (3) Detach the speed ring, rotate it to your desired angle, and place it back into the locking mechanism. (4) Reattach the softbox to your monolight. The Verdict: (A) For occasional adjustments: This is a perfectly fine solution if you only need to change the angle once in a while. (B) For fast-paced shoots: If your workflow requires you to constantly rotate the strip softbox to different angles on the fly, this method is too time-consuming.

Decent, but doesn't rotate

Bought a couple of the strip boxes. Solid build for the price, like the easy collapsible design. One pretty major flaw to me, the box is not able to rotate or angle when mounted on the light.
