Stylophone CPM DS-2 Reviews
Fabulous economical drones
Cannot afford a Solar 42 but want to make drones, this synth might be for you. This nice eurorack-compatible synth has only two drone oscillators but they can produce a surprising variety of textures. The speaker is very weak in the bass range, so for most things you’ll want to hook this into a bigger system or use headphones. I also extended it by using the CV outputs of my Microbrute as modulation sources. And I was able to easily feed the microbrute into the aux input and thus have the ability to play lead lines over the drones in still a compact set up. I do wish it had two true LFOs but the single LFO with two different wave form taps did work well. It comes with a nice variety of miscellaneous patch cords and I didn’t find the need to add extras. This is a nice buy for the money.
Worth the wait!
The CPM DS-2 is a powerhouse and complete sound machine! It seems so simple and at first limited but has the capability to go way beyond what one would expect for the size, price and standard features. Even though my next purchase was going to be the Moog Mavis, this gave me the flexibility and power to leap into the Eurorack rabbit hole. Worth every penny!
