Audix D4 Overview

The Audix D4 drum microphone offers both the frequency and sensitivity response useful for accurately recording drums and percussion instruments. The D4 features a dynamic element capable of reproducing signals with high transients peaks without producing the noise associated with distortion and overloading the capsule.

Its 40 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response allows you to capture large instruments low fundamentals—instruments such as kick drums, djembes, kettle drums, floor toms, and more. Its hypercardioid polar pattern provides a tight pickup area at the front of the capsule, making sure that ambiance and noise present at the off-axis sections of the microphone are greatly reduced.

Hypercardioid Polar Pattern
The hypercardioid polar pattern is effective in eliminating noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the microphone.
Extended Low-Frequency Response
The 40 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response provides extended response at the low-frequency range. The extended range results in accurate pick up of large percussion instruments such as kick drum, djembe, kettle drum, and floor toms.
High SPL Handling
The D4 can accurately handle signals with sound pressure levels registering at 144 dB. Transient peaks are reproduced without distortion due to overload.

We were using the SM57 on floor toms, but it always lacked the low mid and lows without eq'ing the tar out of it. The D4 does exactly what we needed, great natural low end. Clear mids and highs.

Simply you must put the mic and start to hear a powerful and rich sound with an excellent transient, its capacity to capture the whole sound without distortion is amazing, you will not need almost eq. Great on toms, kick, bass cabinet and percussions too.Not is very good for acoustics guitars and voices.
