Sonifex AVN-CU4 Overview

The Sonifex AVN-CU4 is a highly configurable 4-commentator unit that delivers a powerful, flexible, and intuitive solution for professional broadcast and live-commentary applications. It can handle virtually any commentary situation with both Dante and 4-wire connections, ensuring seamless integration with both modern AoIP and traditional workflows.

The AVN-CU4 provides four locking XLR mic/line inputs, each with +48V phantom power and a wide, adjustable gain range. It has four stereo headphone outputs with locking 1/4" jack sockets, suitable for operation by three or four commentators. Other I/O includes four XLR line inputs and six XLR line outputs, which can act as a simultaneous analog backup to the Dante AoIP connections. The unit offers multiple power options including PoE+, AC with the included IEC power cable, and DC with an optional AVN-DCX60 PSU.

Dante Connectivity & Audio Routing
The AVN-CU4 supports up to 16x16 Dante AoIP input and output channels, with up to 16x16 simultaneous Dante streams. Once configured, its mix engine enables flexible routing of signals between physical and AoIP connections, controlled via programmable buttons and rotary encoders.

Two locking Ethernet ports on the back panel are used for AoIP connectivity and can be configured to function in either redundant or switched mode, via the Dante Controller interface.

User-Friendly, Intuitive Control
  • 12 push-button rotary encoders for level, pan, and mix adjustments.
  • 8 pages of 6 rotary encoder positions (48 in total).
  • 24 programmable user buttons with customizable key-cap text.
  • Full-color TFT display for real-time audio and system monitoring.
  • Customizable encoder colors for quick identification of sources and destinations.
  • Embedded web server for remote configuration and control.
Standard Operations Available
  • On-Air control for each commentator position, used to connect mic audio to the main output, either over AoIP or via physical audio connections
  • A cough control is available for each commentator position, which temporarily takes the commentator off-air while pressed
  • 4 T/B (talkback) controls are available for each commentator position
  • User buttons can be programmed to perform various functions using the web server, such as activating a physical GPO, a virtual GPO, a relay, or an event
  • And more
Comprehensive Connectivity Options
  • 4 analog XLR line inputs and 6 analog XLR line outputs on back panel.
  • Rear-panel RJ45 ports provide AES3 or analog I/O, assignable as mic outputs (at line level), talkback, or program feeds.
  • Dual redundant network ports via RJ45 and SFP cages, supporting long fiber runs.
  • 10 configurable GPIO on a 15-way D-type connector, including one switched changeover output.
  • AES/analog I/O can serve as an insert or exit point within the AoIP network.
Flexible Powering Options
The AVN-CU4 supports multiple power sources for maximum reliability:

  • Power over Ethernet+ (PoE+) via Neutrik etherCON connectors (primary & secondary for redundancy).
  • 4-pin XLR 12 VDC input for operation via an external PSU (available separately) when PoE is unavailable.
  • AC mains with universal power supply.
