Ubiquiti UniFi Express 7 Reviews

Awesome WAP

Replaced a Synology WRX-560 for better features and a usable m-DNS experience which Synology just doesn't do well. Easily managed from the UCG-Max front-end (or container) software, excellent detail on about every part of the device you'd care to know about. Awesome SNR compared to other WAPs and excellent throughput. I believe this can also do wireless backhaul if needed but I use wired backhaul option hanging off of one of the 2.5GbE ports on an Ubiquiti Pro Max 16 port switch in my lab and it works very well.

Big UniFi features in a tiny box – one LAN port is the catch

Set up the UniFi Express 7 as the gateway + AP for a rural brick house in Romania, on a PPPoE fiber connection, with an older UniFi AC Mesh as a second AP. What works well: PPPoE, IPv6 with prefix delegation, and DNS-over-provider settings all configured from the cloud UI in minutes. Adopted the AC Mesh without issues. WiFi 7 on 2.4/5/6 GHz, 160 MHz on 6 GHz, MLO, 802.11r/v fast roaming – phones roam cleanly between the UX7 and the AC Mesh. Built-in IPS/IDS with region blocking, DHCP guarding and automatic backups on a device this size is remarkable. 2.5 GbE WAN, fanless, silent, tiny. Where it's rough: IPv6 prefix delegation was sensitive: forcing a /56 request made IPv6 drop until I reverted to Auto and rebooted. Early Access firmware channel is on by default on my unit; I'd prefer the stable channel out of the box. Only one LAN port – you need a switch or a second AP for anything wired.

The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Express 7, B&H # UBUX7US, supports up to 30+ managed UniFi devices; in theory you could have up to 30+ of them.
