ZEISS SFL 12x50 Overview

Applying the principles of the SmartFocus Lightweight line to optics with large, light-hungry objective lenses, the Zeiss 12x50 SFL Binoculars combine ease of use with the premium optical quality ZEISS is known for. The SFL line uses slightly smaller objective lenses for a significant weight reduction from previous models, making a day of nature observation or sightseeing much more comfortable. Zeiss calls its SFL 50 series "50mm optics in a 42mm frame."

You'll enjoy the generous field of view for the big picture and the 5.9' close-focus distance for a good look at that nearby bird or butterfly. Extra-low dispersion glass with the famous T* coating delivers 90% light transmission for a beautiful image, even in the low light of dusk or dawn. The SFL is waterproof and nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging. A tripod adapter is included for perfectly stable hands-free use.

Lightweight Magnesium Chassis
The lightweight yet rugged magnesium housing enhances durability and longevity for generations to come. Reduced lens diameter, thinner lens elements, and minimized distance between elements allow the 50mm SFL binoculars to feel and look like a smaller size, for better comfort and when glassing.

SmartFocus Concept for Intuitive, Precise Handling
The SmartFocus concept makes it possible to focus quickly and precisely, without having to spread your fingers. The focusing wheel, perfectly positioned in the DoubleLink Bridge, offers the highest level of operating ergonomics, requiring only a 1.4 turn from close focus to infinity and easy to rotate precisely even with gloves on. You'll enjoy comfortable and immersive viewing due to the large exit pupil. In addition, the adjustable and removable eyecups provide an even better ergonomic feel.

Great light gathering and sharp focus

Use in Bird identification in early morning light. I saw features I could not see with naked eye. I have a 35 year old ZEISS 10x40 B, which also is great in low light. With the greater range and light gathering; The. ZEISS 12x50 SFL is my choice for low light.

Optically they are great, especially in low light. I also love the reach of 12x. The nagging thing for a $2K pair of binoculars however is the eyecups. Whoever installed them must have cross-threaded them because they require a lot of force to manipulate and I only get two clickstops. According to the user manual I should get three click stops. For that much money, the eyecups should be buttery smooth!
