Oben IBH-11L Overview

The IBH-11L Inverted Ball Head from Oben is an ideal photo and video accessory for capturing perfect panoramic shots. The inverted design places the panning base above the ball head and makes it easy to align the camera with the horizon, ensuring the camera will always remain level. The IBH-11L lets you perfectly align your camera with the horizon before you shoot, and it ensures the horizon level won't rise or fall when panning, taking the guesswork out of panoramic shots.

The head's base has a 1/4"-20 mounting thread compatible with most tripods. A 90° notch lets you smoothly reposition the camera from portrait to landscape orientation, and independent pan and leveling locks assure stability. A 360° scale is etched into the base for accurately repeating panning camera moves and maintaining exact distance when stitching together panoramic photos.

Inverted Ball Head
The inverted ball head design means the camera will always be level during a panning shot and will avoid unwanted rising and sinking horizons when the ball head or tripod legs aren't level. The design puts the leveling base above the ball, so once the camera is level, it will stay level.
Compact Design with 11 lb Load Capacity
The IBH-11L weighs only 3.75 oz, but its sturdy aluminum construction supports cameras and lenses up to 11 lb, enough to mount a substantial camera and lens. The IBH-11L is compatible with smaller action and point-and-shoot cameras and can even be used with a user-supplied smartphone adapter.
Arca-Type Compatible Quick Release Set
The Arca-type compatible quick-release set lets you switch from stable to handheld operation in seconds without interrupting your workflow.
Independent Pan Lock
Unlike single-lock ball heads, the IBH-11L has an independent pan lock. Once the integrated bubble level indicates the base is level, loosening the pan lock won't change the camera's level or orientation.
Ball Head Locking Lever
The ball head's locking mechanism is controlled by a locking lever, so once the camera is level, there is no need to twist knobs or ratchet handles. A quick push on the lever and the ball head is locked in place, and you're ready for your pan shot.
360° Panning Scale
A 360° panning scale is etched into the panning base so you can accurately mark the beginning and end of a pan when you're stitching together panoramic photos.

Oben IBH-11L Reviews

Works quite well

Very small but works quite well. Great quality build and pans very smoothly. It handles the Nikon D780 with 24-120 lens attached very easily. In short, it does what it is designed to do. Main cons are: Size is very small so stability may be of concern to some. Not for me. When used with a larger camera like a DSLR knobs are quite difficult to control when camera is attached. Not a big deal but quite inconvenient. I guess it wasn’t meant to be used with larger cameras. Also note that screw thread is 1/4 and not 3/8. Luckily my tripod had a reversible screw head.

Great First Impression

My first impression of the IBH-11L Inverted Ball Head was that it was very small and wondered if it could handle the weight of my Nikon Z6ii. Using a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter, I installed the unit onto my travel tripod and was pleased about the weight reduction. I mounted my camera to evaluate the ease of installation and setting orientation. The IBH-11L held the camera without issue, providing the scanning benefit of the inverted design. I gave a 4 star rating only because of my concern that it may not perform in actual field use. My next field trip will determine if this is a 5 star product for a full frame camera.
