The remote allows for smoother control, but an app would provide more functionality. This remote will allow you to control 4 Lightgo units for easy lighting, even when you are far from your light fixtures. However, don't expect dynamic control or live action use. An Android or IOS app might make LightGo an essential tool for me. Still a great 5-Star Product for basic lighting
