ASUS ThunderboltEX 5 Overview

Enhance your workflow with high-speed storage devices and 8K displays by installing the ASUS ThunderboltEX 5 Dual-Port Thunderbolt 5 PCIe 4.0 Expansion Card into your compatible desktop computer. Each of the two Thunderbolt 5 ports support up to 120 Gb/s transfers with support for up to five daisy chained devices. It can also provide up to 130W total power delivery with select motherboards.

The ThunderboltEX 5 fits into an available PCIe 4.0 x4 slot while connecting to available Thunderbolt / USB4, USB 2.0, and DisplayPort headers. A 6-pin PCIe power connector links directly to the power supply. Connect the three external Mini DisplayPort In ports to your graphics card using the included cables to support Thunderbolt compatible displays. Supporting DisplayPort 2.1, up to three 7680 x 4320 resolution UHD 8K, 60 Hz display may be connected simultaneously for efficient multitasking. Windows 11 64-bit is required.

Exceptional Speed
Transferring up to 120 Gb/s with compatible devices, Thunderbolt 5 offers 3x the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4.
Power Delivery
The ThunderboltEX 5 supports a total of 130W Flexible FastCharge, and up to 96W for a single device. Please note that the Flexible FastCharge feature requires a compatible motherboard that's set to s0 mode.
Dual PC Sharing
With Thunderbolt Share, you can connect up to two Thunderbolt compatible computers directly to each other to share screens, peripherals, and files.
One Cable, Multiple Devices
Simplify your setup by daisy chaining up to five devices to each Thunderbolt 5 port. You can configure three devices and two monitors to a port or four devices and a single display.

ThunderboltEX 5 does not work. The drivers downloaded from the official website are not installed.

The directions are lacking. 1st this card is only for 800 series Intel motherboards. I have an Asus z890 TUF WIFI board. This card gets installed in the bottom PCIEX 16 slot (G4), which appears weird because it will also fit in the 4x4 PCI slot but shouldn't. You need to make sure your bios settings are turned on for Thunderbolt (mine wasn't). Then you need to install the drivers listed on the Asus product site. Then update the firmware V59.2 via bios. Then it worked. There is no mention of this in the instructions. I also have a StarTech 20Gbps PCI card which is plug&play and took a minute to set up with no additional drivers or software. The transfers speeds between the two cards isn't much different going from NVME to NVME with the Thunderbolt slightly faster. I thought this ThunderboltEX 5 card would be twice as fast. I get about 2.2-3.0 GB/s transfers internally from NVME to NVME and about 1.3 GB/s with this card vs 1.1 GB/s with the StarTech card. What is claimed for ThunderboltEX 5 isn't real world in practice. At least this card isn't twice the cost but I did need to remove one fan mounted to the bottom of my case to make the ThunderboltEX 5 card to fit. Maybe future motherboards will improve on speeds?

Is this compatible with the ASUS PRIME X570-PRO ...

Is this compatible with the ASUS PRIME X570-PRO AM4 ATX Motherboard? A quick google says I need the ThunderboltEX-3 not found

Does ASUS TB5 card need to be connected to TB5 in ...

Does ASUS TB5 card need to be connected to TB5 in the mother board, or does it work with PCIe4 connection alone?

In addition to inserting the ASUS ThunderboltEX 5 Dual-Port Thunderbolt 5 PCIe 4.0 Expansion Card into the PCIe slot, it will also need to be connected to the Thunderbolt header on your motherboard. The cable to do this is included.
