The Russound SMZ16-PRE is a powerful 16x16 matrix pre-amplifier with a built-in streaming platform, engineered to elevate your audio system with flexible source management and seamless integration of modern streaming technologies, including AirPlay and Google Cast.
Featuring an integrated DSP, it offers a 7-band graphic EQ with tailored presets optimized for Russound speakers. An HDMI input with Audio Return Channel (ARC) ensures effortless TV or video source connection with low-latency performance, eliminating lip-sync issues.
Scalable for larger installations, the SMZ16-PRE supports expansion up to a 16x96 matrix. It offers intuitive control via the Russound app, XTS7 touchscreen, or IPK-1 keypad. The unit is rackmount-ready, with rack ears included for easy integration into professional AV setups.
- Built-in Audio Streamer: the SMZ16-PRE includes the same hi-res audio streamer that is used in the popular Russound MBX-PRE and MBX-AMP products. Add additional MBX-PRE streaming pre-amplifiers (up to 15 per SMZ16-PRE) as needed

- Third-party control: the SMZ16-PRE uses Russound’s RIO protocol for third-party control. Drivers are available for popular control platforms such as Control4, RTI, and URC
- Firmware updatable: as new features or software improvements are released by Russound, your SMZ16-PRE can be kept up to date with an option for automatically updating
- Web config: web config is a hosted webpage on the SMZ16-PRE where all of the installation configuration and settings are maintained. It can be accessed from any browser on the same network as the SMZ16-PRE by simply navigating to the SMZ16-PRE’s IP address
