Audio Output not stereo

I have spent two months helping Dell troubleshoot their problem with this machine that they have not yet been able to solve. The front panel audio jack does not deliver two-channel (stereo) sound even when a valid stereo sound file is presented. Instead you either have to use the two-channel audio embedded in the HDMI/Displayport connection, or buy an adapter from USB-C to a standard jack matching a stereo headphone plug. Dell also were unaware of a downgrade Microsoft has imposed on Windows 11 in early 2026, which now blocks a valid customer from initializing its operating system on a new, authentic computer. Dell failed to acknowledge, and ultimately did not know about this downgrade, which now requires an ethernet connection to carry out the initial setup. Dell said there is no way to defeat Microsoft's issue. Previously it was possible to use a local account protocol, without the need for internet, which would have then enabled a user to install an external wi-fi dongle to finish configuring the machine and OS. The impact of this downgrade is related to the audio problem. Dell ran me through a prolonged series of try-this, try-that, including remote access by a Dell technician who did the same thing they previously asked me to do. Eventually they said it must be the OS, so uninstall and reinstall. I do not have Ethernet. The first time I tried to activate the computer I had to come in from a sailboat and find a cable at the marina. The second time was during the Ice Storm. I am fed up. And the reinstallation did nothing to cure the problem. I believe there is a design flaw related to that panel jack, which is supposed to deliver two channel audio to its TRRS connector. I have confirmed connections with the schematic, an audio signal generator, and other laboratory grade gear (and expertise) to trace and fix this machine. NO can do. So, beware.

A big step up from original Dell micro and much better than most mini PCs

The new Dell Pro Max Micro is a big step up from the original Dell micro series. It has more than twice the volume. I can feel the interior components are cooling properly. I have the model with A1000. It is very quiet. I don’t hear any noise. I have owned Dell 7000 Optiplex micro and several other mini PCs from Minisforum, Beelink, GeeKom. This one beats them all. No comparison. The only con is the pricing. I would buy only when there is a discount.
