NETGEAR PR60X Reviews

Fussy setup, poor Insight cloud management, terrible support

We've had this in service for about 16 months now. While it is reliable once set up, the setup process itself is confusing and tedious, especially if you are trying to manage with Netgear Insight Cloud. It took multiple attempts (w/ many reboots and several factory resets) to get it to communicate w/ Insight. Additionally, the insight portal settings changes don't sync right away with the local device; sometimes it's just minutes later, other times a manual reboot by logging into the PR60X's local web ui is necessary. Netgear support is abysmal. When you have it, they waste hours of your time on the phone and don't seem to understand the Insight product at all. But your included support contract is short and even buying annual Insight license renewals does not include any support at all, even with Insight itself. For example, when our initial license period expired and we renewed, after allocating the credits to the device, it showed as "disconnected" from Insight cloud management. Their support team refused to help with this despite having just purchased and activated an annual Insight license renewal for it. We purchased this router and several other insight managed devices (access points, switches) as a sort of test run at one of our sites to compare it vs. Meraki (used at our other 3 locations) given the lower cost. Overall I regret ever buying any of this Netgear. We will be sticking with Meraki for all of our organizations needs moving forward.

I bought this because I have a large home that a regular wifi router does not cover and I wanted a multi-Gbit router that I could manage locally so I do not use Insight Cloud. I have tried a couple of different mesh WiFi products, but did not like them and wanted to use 4 WiFi 7 access points (another brand) and have a lot of Ethernet devices too. The router is solid and has no problem with my Comcast 2 Gb internet service. Firewall and port forwarding are easy to configure. I have the 2.5 Gb WAN port connected to Comcast modem and the 10 Gb port connected to my network's Ethernet switch, and can easily achieve 2+ Gb download with speed test.
