Polsen MB2020 Overview

The MB-2020 Cardioid XLR Boundary Microphone from Polsen is a low-profile XLR boundary microphone that's tailored to accurately capture speech and instruments while sitting unobtrusively on a desk or tabletop. This easy-to-use boundary microphone features a cardioid polar pattern that focuses on the sound in front of it while minimizing off-axis sound and noise. The MB-2020's audio quality will be a noticeable improvement over a computer's internal microphone when used for video chats, conferences, and presentations. In addition to voices and speech, this boundary mic's frequency range, sensitivity, and high SPL level allow a kick or bass drum, brass, choirs, and large ensembles to be faithfully recorded.

The MB-2020 runs on 48V phantom power that can be supplied via a mixing board, digital recorder, or phantom power supply. A built-in LED indicator shows phantom power status during operation. The balanced output and included mini XLR cable ensure clean and interference-free audio, even over a long cable run. Rugged all-metal construction makes the MB-2020 able to withstand frequent use and a perfect choice for travel. An anti-skid padded rubber base keeps the mic in place on smooth or highly polished surfaces, and it decouples the mic from any vibrations that can compromise your audio. Two keyhole slots on the bottom will accept screw heads for more permanent wall or podium installation.

Cardioid Polar Pattern
The MB-2020 boundary microphone features a cardioid polar pattern that focuses on the sound in front of it while minimizing off-axis sound and noise. Cardioid mics are great for speech and solo instruments, so it is a great choice for video meetings, vlogs, podcasts, and voiceovers. Thanks to the cardioid polar pattern, your voice or instrument is all they'll hear, even in a noisy environment or busy office.
Low Profile
Place the low-profile MB-2020 it in front of you on your desktop and it will pick up your voice clearly, leaving your face unobstructed. Eliminate the microphone covering the bottom half of your face, or having to peer around a mic that's suspended from an unsightly broadcast arm.
Detailed Audio
This microphone features a wide frequency curve with high sensitivity and a very high 130 dB SPL that can handle loud and sudden bursts of sound. Your audience will understand every word you say, and you can record instruments like kick drums, pianos, and brass without peaking.
Balanced Output
The microphone's mini XLR output sends a balanced signal to a mixing board, recorder, or PA system. A balanced signal minimizes RF or EM interference, even over long cable runs.
All-Metal Construction
Rugged all-metal construction will stand up to demanding conditions like being mounted on a podium or sustaining the bumps and dings from transport. The MB-2020 can even be slipped in your pocket and taken to remote locations for streaming interviews or podcasts.
Anti-Skid Rubber Padding
The bottom non-slip rubber pad stabilizes the microphone on smooth or highly polished surfaces. It also will decouple the microphone from the desk or table surface, so vibrations won't compromise your audio.
Keyhole Mounts
Two keyhole slots on the bottom of the housing will accept screw heads for more permanent wall or podium installation.

Polsen MB2020 Reviews

Great tabletop mic for meetings, presentations and recording audio

I love this Polsen MB-2020 boundary microphone. It's working great on a desk setup for recording voice and online meetings, and it has been a really nice upgrade over a typical built in computer microphone. The low-profile design is one of the things I like most about it. It sits right on the desk and captures clear audio without getting in the way or blocking your face on camera. That makes it great for video calls, presentations and even podcasts where you want good sound but a clean looking setup. The cardioid pickup pattern does a nice job focusing on the voice in front of it while keeping background noise under control. In my experience, the sound is clear and natural for speech, and it is a noticeable improvement compared to most laptop or webcam microphones. It runs on standard phantom power through XLR, which makes it easy to connect to a mixer, recorder, or audio interface. The included cable is also a nice bonus and makes setup quick and easy. The build quality is solid as well. The all-metal construction feels durable and the rubber base helps keep the mic from sliding around on a desk while also reducing vibrations from the surface. Overall, it is a simple, well-designed microphone that delivers good results without being complicated. For the price, it is a very practical option if you want a clean tabletop microphone for voice recording, meetings, or streaming. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review.]

Small enough to travel with and great for informal podcasts

This low profile mic feels like a narrow hockey puck. It's got a nice weight to it and the audio it produces is not bad at all. I imagine using this often when I need to record important in-person meetings or if I'm traveling and want to set up an makeshift podcast on the fly. I like that this mic is all metal and rather small too. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]
