Lume Cube XL Reviews
Quiet, compact and strong
This review is important because I couldn't find the answers for this, and maybe others will wonder too. I have the power grip XL for it, and it works great, but on the company website it doesn't mention USB requirements to power it that way. I did the bot chat with the company and it said and then double downed that the USB-C requirement is 24V/3A to power it. I tested it with an Anker power bank that indicates voltage, amperage and wattage, and it definitely does not require the relatively rate 24V from USB-C. It powers nicely with 20V/3A and cycling through the power, it goes in pairs. 1% and 2% pulls the same power as does 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and so forth. So if you were need to light a subject or a room in a power outage, using the even number will use the same power as the odd just below it. Minor, but when speaking in terms of 1-5%, the 1% makes a difference. So now the review of the product. Very small compared to 60W monolights. While there is no internal battery, and that's how it can be this small, knowing you can power from a USB-C device or the power grip, you can make this fit in any bag. I purchased the 22" diffuser as well, and this works amazing in a room where you just need to add ambient or light a single subject. If you can get close enough to your subject in daylight, it even fills in light. I haven't used it enough to hear a fan kick on. It's very well ventilated, so air flow helps naturally. The housing is plastic, but feels good with how light it makes it. Not a cheap plastic feeling. If you need a light to light the background of a photoshoot, this does great. If you want to add color to a background, the full color gamut gives you a lot of flexibility and it stays very bright throughout the range. It's not inexpensive unless you get it on sale, but I have a 40W SmallRig that the fan is very noticeable even at low output. For photos, no problem, but for video, this one will do the trick better.
crazy bright
Wow, this thing is super bright, built like a tank, and super easy to use! That’s why I’m giving it 5 stars. The only downside is it needs a power cord, no built-in battery. But hey, I’ve not found a better light that has a built-in battery and is bi-colored and RGB. so buy it
