QNAP TS-216G External HDD/SSD Reviews

Works well, but not easy to set up

The NAS does work well, once it is all set up. But it's not super easy to get it set up. I'm a "home user" and reasonably tech literate, and there were definitely some things that weren't obvious and weren't described in the online manuals and help articles. So I had to go back and forth with the help desk twice before it was flying. Once that was done, I will say that the storage is fast and easy to access from anywhere; that music streamed to my Bluesound Node 2i is VASTLY improved over my previous HDD; and that the optional apps offered by Qnap seem to be very useful. Just hope it stays solid for a long time. I had a WD MyCloud Home previously, that failed after less than 2 years.

Upgrade from WD cloud

Replaced WD personal home cloud that was 5 years old. WD absent from NAS cloud products. That said QNAP so much better than paying for cloud service. Set this up as RAID-1. Great features and still learning.

Could you please confirm that this doesn't support Raid 5?

The QNAP TS-216G 2-Bay NAS Enclosure does not support RAID 5 and is only capable of RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD. Only enclosures with three or more bays (and a minimum of three drives installed) can support RAID 5.

can it sit horizontally (on its side)?

The QNAP TS-216G 2-Bay NAS Enclosure, B&H # QNTS216US, is designed to be used in the vertical position—we would not recommend using it on its side.
