Designed specifically to facilitate input of Hi-Z instruments like guitar and bass with API Audio Legacy/Vision consoles and the L200 rack, the 205L is a 200-series direct input module with a 1/4" Hi-Z input on the front panel. With the ability to bring passive instruments up to a hefty level with minimal pickup loading, just like a tube amp, this module brings the most out of instruments.
A wide-ranging gain control lets you adjust the instrument's input level up to a +4 dBu output. The Tone control is useful for eliminating muddiness, which can sometimes plague low-end frequencies. A Bright switch boosts treble frequencies and adds presence, much like similarly named functions on guitar amps. Further functions include a -20 dB input pad for preamplified signals (such as those from keyboards, drum machines, and samplers) and a 100k load switch, which alters the tone of the pickup, darkening high-frequency material. A 5-segment LED meter lets you keep an eye on your output levels. And with a discrete design, including 2510/2520 op-amps and a custom output transformer, the 205L offers the signature analog sound API is known for.
The 205L can be used in the Legacy or Vision Series Consoles, or in the L200 Rack. The 205L Direct makes use of the 2510 and 2520 op-amps and therefore exhibits the reliability, long life, and uniformity characteristic of API products.
