Taking API Audio's successful 2500 Stereo Bus Compressor and fitting it into a compact 500-series form factor, the 529 is a stereo compressor/limiter module featuring API's unmistakable compression tone and an impressive level of control. With the patented THRUST circuit for frequency-dependent side-chain and variable, detented controls, the 529 offers precision dynamics processing.
The THRUST function comes in three levels of intensity (Loud, Med, and Norm), and you can select between compression knee types (Hard, Med, Soft) and compression characteristics: New provides a modern-style feedforward design while the Old selection offers vintage-style feedback compression. Further controls include selection between variable or auto makeup gain, Threshold control (+10 to -20 dB), manual makeup gain control (up to +24 dB), Attack time (1 to 50 ms), Release time (0.5 to 4 sec), Ratio selection (1.5:1 to Infinity:1), and a three-way Out control for selecting gain reduction in, out, and hardwired relay bypass. Two 10-segment LED meters are provided—one dedicated to gain reduction and another stereo LED meter with selectable input or output level monitoring. Finally, the 529 respects your sound with patented API circuitry technology, including 2520 and 2510 op-amps and API's custom output transformer.
Then, the resulting compression signal is applied evenly to both channels for proper balance. All front-panel settings control both channels simultaneously.
