Peak Design Pro Tripod Reviews

Not very pro…

While this is a nice tripod, it is not competitive with pro tripod and ballhead combo (we all know who they are, and have been for 30 years). Where it wins is compactness, and a bit of weight savings since ballhead is integrated. Nice to have as a portable option, but travel tripod might be better option for that. Now for the really bad parts. Marketing pictures aside, ballhead *will* drop big lenses when released, since it is top heavy and spherical, not elliptical as the one we all use. You also cannot do vertical framing unless you extend the center column, or have L-bracket or lens collar. Tripod spider is small, which does not promote torsional rigidity either. I’m keeping it, but I have specific user case in mind, and other options. You might want to look into them before jumping in.

Holds the Canon 600mm F/4 with ease!

My first pro tripod and an upgrade from a Manfrotto setup. I love how easy it is to setup/take down, how light and compact it is, and how modular it is with additional accessories. I have been using this for a few months now from a kayak to standing still on dry land…it’s just a pleasure. Granted, I don’t know how it stacks up with other tripods in this price point, but my other Peak gear has me believing this is also another home run.
