Distinguished by its slim pancake form factor, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ from OM SYSTEM is a versatile 28-84mm equivalent zoom designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Despite its compact profile, this lens includes an advanced optical design, which includes aspherical, low dispersion, and high refractive index elements to achieve a high degree of sharpness and clarity throughout the zoom range. A ZERO coating has also been applied to individual elements to suppress flare and ghosting for high contrast, color-accurate imagery. In addition to the optical design and small size, the lens is also characterized by its Electronic Zoom mechanism, for smooth and constant zoom movements, and a Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) AF system that is quick, quiet, and precise to suit both video and photo applications.

OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.... Reviews
Great, even without manual focus
I have just had this for a few days. I had left my OM-1 at home on a trip a year ago because of its bulk with the zoom lens that I had. I love the small size of this pancake lens. My home-testing of this lens shows that I can crop to expand height 9x before the edges of objects get a bit soft. Lines and brightness at the edges of a shot are perfect. I looked for solar flare, and it occurred only when I was shooting directly towards a mid-morning sun. By these tests, this lens exceeds my needs. My main concern is that there is no manual focus. I had to dive into the owner's manual to find work-arounds, and they are there, but without care, my landscapes focused only on the foreground. Also, this lens is not weatherproof, so it will require extra care compared to other OM System lenses. The focusing and the weatherproofing are drawbacks that I can live with to have the compactness. It is a great addition to my kit.
Great lens for a great system
This lens is small and flat. Good quality. It’s proportioned well for my OM-D, which helps keep the overall camera sleek and easy to carry, just right for street photography, especially when you combine it with the OM-D’s quiet, inconspicuous shutter. Thanks to the 2x magnification of the Micro Four Thirds sensor, the lens is actually the equivalent of a 35mm 28-84mm lens. The whole rig fits in the palm of my hand.
