Heipi W28S Reviews

Pleasantly surprised!! Nice to see some new innovations and quality engineering for a change.

Let me first say that I just received this product and have NOT used it in the field yet. However I testing it at home as I always do the new products. I own many tripod but I was so impressed the Heipi added some new features, functionality and physically light-weight and small footprint. I cannot wait to try this out in the field. I needed a well-made, light-weight for travel and this product could be my new travel pod. It weight 3 LBS including a very functional ball-head and water resistance travel bag. What is cool is the many design features that make this product stand out among the rest; - Very sturdy pod with a new center column which make using the column better for windy conditions. - Love the heavy-duty loop chord hanging underneath the center column to help keep the pod from moving during high-winds. - The rubber feet convert into spiked foot which I have not seen before. I usually carry separate spikes on the other pods. - I didn't think the Lever Locks would be robust but they are high quality AL and very secure. - Accessories 3/8" port are very welcome. Wish my Gitzo Traveler 1 had these ports. - The ball head was design with both quality and weight in mind and is a pleasant surprise how stable it was with 10LBS load. I have not experienced any creep when locking down the head under load. - My wife uses iPhone a lot and she saw the built-in Phone holder and really liked it. ( I may need a buy another for her use.) - Detachable Table-top pod is useful for very low Landscape shots as well as programming my cameras and vlogging. Nice to finally see some innovations in the Tripod space.

Stable travel tripod with an excellent ballhead

I switched to this Heipi from Peak Design's innovative Travel Tripod because the ballhead lacked a panning feature and the center column was not stable enough for long exposures when it was extended. The Heipe solves both problems. The ballhead is large enough to lock in place securely, it can pan and it accepts ACRA- Swiss- compatible plates, including Peak Design's squares, Heidi's knock-off of that plate, and a Rogetti L-bracket. The retaining pins that keep square plates centered are spring-loaded so you don't have to remove them to use a longer plate. The center column is actually the closed set of legs for an included tabletop tripod, and it's much more stable when extended than most columns. And there are other neat features. For example, the leg fliplocks can be adjusted, the legs can be disassembled for cleaning. The only imperfect part is that the center column can be a bit sticky when you want to push it back down. All-in-all, it's the next generation of innovative travel tripods.

What is the difference between the S and the Q tripod??
Asked by: chris
The Heipi W28S S 3‐in‐1 Travel Tripod differs from the W28Q primarily in head type and load capacity. The S model has a ball head suitable for cameras up to ~4 kg, while the Q model uses a quick‐release plate system and can support slightly heavier gear, making it faster to mount and dismount a camera.
