CHAUVET DJ FLEX H9 IP Reviews

Like but don't love new FF H9 IP

The Freedom Flex pars are an unique light and I see zero useful reviews on the web. So here's my 2 cents and I hope it's helpful. I've used the previous model FF H4 IP extensively and inherited the new model FF H9 IP from a company that wasn't using them. I use the Chauvet proprietary D-Fi wireless protocol to control via a Chauvet D-Fi hub to ultraDMX2 pro to Lightkey on a mac Big difference is 9 vs 4 LEDs, and it does produce cleaner colors as you'd expect. But I've also noticed a weird glitch where the lights will flicker after being on for more than 20 minutes without a cue. The H4s don't do that. The instruments are also a bit smaller and lighter. That's nice for sure. Battery life seems longer too. The batteries have a different charge connection so they're not interchangeable with the previous model. I've never loved the battery connectors and both get beat up after repeatedly loading them into the charger. It's just not the best designed connection. Maybe that goes with the territory. A big drawback is that the H9 batteries take some muscle to insert and withdraw. The connection is tight and definitely slower than the H4, a meaningful drawback when you're pulling and reloading 6+ batteries every day. A huge issue is that one light does not have reliable D-Fi. It only works next to the D-Fi hub and even then it doesn't respond quickly. I've contacted Chauvet but so far nothing. Is this an isolated incident or a larger QC problem? I guess we'll find out. The OLED display is nice. Improved software control. Comes with a diffuser. New kickstand is better. Final conclusion: Necessary update to the FF product. Huge problem is that 1 of 6 lights didn't work properly out of the box. The light flicker is annoying but I haven't figured out how prevalent it is. As for value, would I buy 6 new FF H9 for $3,300 or pick up the discontinued product at
