Elektron TONVERK Overview

From Manufacturer

Primed for adventures in audio, the Elektron Tonverk is unique polyphonic sampling workstation designed to to propel you toward extraordinary musicmaking and boundless sound exploration. Tonverk is a revelatory pathfinder in which to immerse yourself, offering diverse solutions to capture, process, and route your sound.

Tonverk is a versatile, playful, creative machine capable of adapting to whatever you want to do. It's a labyrinth full of routes and revelations. Sixteen varied tracks—eight of them audio with multiple machines, polyphonic stereo sampling, a kaleidoscope of effects and modulation, multisampled instruments, subtracks within tracks, and routing—pushed until it becomes a playground. Whether you’re multisampling your favorite synth, building unique drum kits, or routing sounds out and back in again for further alchemy, Tonverk is ready to take you there.

Tonverk Firmware Update v1.3.0
Tonverk gets another unique addition with OS 1.3.0. Introducing Wavefinder, a wavetable synthesis Machine that greatly expands Tonverk’s sonic possibilities. It is accompanied by a bunch of features, fixes, and improvements that take Tonverk to new creative heights.

Wavefinder

  • Wavefinder gives you two independent wavetable oscillators that can be modulated and blended. Dive in and shape your tone by picking your wavetables and using Position to find the perfect wave, and Level to find the perfect mix. Set tune and detune, and then modulate your position and level by choosing one of the 12 wavetable animations, with further modulation controls available. All of this works together to unlock deeper layers of movement and expression, further increased by the ability to add your own wavetables. This extra slice of synthesis broadens Tonverk's sound palette, both on its own and alongside the other sample Machines already at your disposal.

Subtrack mhoking

  • Your Subtracks now come with chokes. Each Subtrack can be assigned so that as soon as they are triggered, they immediately silence other Subtracks. Enjoy fluid rhythmic interplay and watertight hi-hat control.

Arp Parameter Locks and Randomization

  • Tonverk’s arpeggiator gets a pair of power-ups to make it an even more useful and experimental tool. You can now, for the very first time, parameter lock tweaks to arp settings. Additionally, when in Live Recording mode, any parameter changes can be captured into the sequence. And, you can also randomize the arp page, letting you instantly generate arpeggios that can be wild and occasionally wonderful.

Page Looping

  • Your page selection and looping wishes are answered. Hold the page button when in grid recording mode, press arrow up or down, then pick your page via the trigs. Easily jump straight to or loop any specific page (or pages) you want.

And More

  • And that's just scratching the surface of OS 1.3.0. Also included are Prepare Mutes, Sustain and Sostenuto pedal support, Remember Subpage and Subtrack, and more.

Meet the Machines
Three machines form the initial basis of Tonverk’s sound creation, plus another for MIDI.

  • Single Player is a Tonverk take on a polyphonic one-shot machine. Load, record, or drag and drop your stereo sample from your device, and play it back polyphonically. Find your start point, find your end, set your loop point, and smooth it out like butter with the crossfade parameter for seamless looping. Let a single tone run on into polyphonic infinity.
  • Multi Player lets you load a multisampled instrument. Various samples are spread out over the keyboard, full of melodic potential, and ready for your fingertips. The machine comes with several multisampled instruments covering plenty of flavors, and with the Auto Sampler you can of course create your own magic.
  • Subtracks offers you the chance to load a sample on every lower row key on Tonverk’s keyboard. This means one track is essentially eight Subtracks, each able to play their samples simultaneously. And every Subtrack has its own two filters, an amp envelope, and modulation. Load a curated set of samples or pick and choose what sound lives where. Why not have eight drum machines in your drum machine? The choice is yours.
Super Sampling
There are two ways to sample with Tonverk. Recorder allows for straightforward audio sampling, externally or internally, in a way familiar to those who have used Elektron samplers before. Tonverk's Auto Sampler adds another layer of interest. Connect your MIDI gear and record whatever sound you like. Maybe it's your favorite monophonic patch from elsewhere, magically made polyphonic, giving it a new lease of life. Decide how many notes and velocity layers you want to collect, start the recording, and let the machine do the work. You can even connect via USB, and sample from whatever app you have at your disposal.
Routing Adventures
Tonverk's routing capabilities are huge. There are lots of places to begin your journey and countless directions you can head off in. Let one sound have its own unique adventure or bring tracks together for combined treatment. All of Tonverk's tracks have their own routing. Its extensive, flexible routing setup allows you to direct sound from multiple sources to various destinations. You can also send audio out of Tonverk, process it externally, and bring it right back in. On the back of your machine you have four outputs and two inputs, and a headphone out that is also a routing option. Plus, you get MIDI In, Out, and Thru, two USB-C slots and an SD card.
Mass FX
Tonverk is an effects beast, giving you different options when it comes to what, where, and how you use the scores of effects on offer. There are plenty of newcomers to work with as well: Rumsklang Reverb, Daisy Delay, Dirtshaper, Degrader, Chrono Pitch, Frequency Warper, Infinite Flanger, Phase 98, Filterbank, and Comb +/- are all eager to be explored, and are joined by some Elektron classics, and a bunch of filters.
Mega Modulation
There's modulation mayhem on offer on Tonverk, with LFO possibilities everywhere you look, letting you shape your sound as deeply as you dare to. Each of the eight audio tracks has two voice LFOs, two FX LFOs, and a Mod Envelope. If you're using the Subtracks machine, many of the modulation powers are usable per Subtrack. Every track or Subtrack has one filter envelope and one amp envelope as well. And if that's not enough, each of your buses, sends, and the mix has two LFOs too, making for a large number of modulation options.
Stepped-Up Sequencer
Tonverk boosts the Elektron sequencer to its biggest-ever size, with the possibility of 256 steps to put to use. And every single track has its own sequencer, meaning you can Parameter lock in all kinds of magical ways, granting you even more movement and control. You can even P-lock the routing itself, letting you route your sound continuously or for just a split second. In fact, across the device, Tonverk has more Parameter-lock potential than Elektron has ever put in one box.
Verkstation
In many ways, Tonverk could be your perfect Elektron workstation. Multisample your favorite piece of gear, and take it in unimaginable directions. Build your drum kits, build your instruments, save your presets. Sequence your songs, route your sounds, and dive into plenty more features like arpeggiator, chord mode, song mode, pattern transitions, perform mode, and a selection of modulation sources that shine when connecting your external keyboard. And do all of this from one box.
Audio Dynamite
Tonverk is loaded with a diverse factory library packed with options to work across its machines. There are multisampled instruments, Subtracks instruments, single samples, and presets aplenty, providing a true springboard for your sonic escapades.
