The Kit Plug-In NP A67 faithfully captures the distinctive sonic character of a custommodified Altec 1567A tube mixer/preamp originally used at Norman Petty Studios. It features the smooth, silky saturation found on many fifties vocal tracks. The plug-in comes with more than 140 presets. It can drive saturation in a specific frequency band, and you can engage high-pass and low-pass filters. This plug-in works with DAWs compatible with AAX, AU, and VST3 protocols running on Windows or Mac systems.
Features
- Tube Saturation and Drive: Input controls emulate tube distortion when pushed toward 0 dB, mirroring the natural compression of the original mixers.
- Analog Texture: Optional hum recreates generator noise from vintage components.
- EQ Additions: While the Bass and Treble mimic vintage tone stacks, the Mid-Peaking Band is a modern tweak introduced to augment tonal shaping without deviating from the original’s character.
- Flexible Filters: HP (High-Pass) and LP (Low-Pass) filters, based on a customized Pultec-style circuit with resonant peak, provide studio-grade control to focus or tame frequencies.
- Input and Output Trims (+/-36 dB): Gain-stage in and out of the plug-in.
- Input Gain (inf to 0 dB): Drives the tube stage, nearing 0 dB adds distortion/saturation.
- Mix: Parallel wet/dry blending for subtle to full processing balance control.
- Output Gain (0 dB to inf): Post-gain attenuation.
- Bass EQ (0 to 10): Emulates lows of vintage tube tone.
- Mid-Peaking EQ Band (–12 to +12 dB at 200 Hz to 2.5 kHz): Provides extended equalization control (not on the original units).
- Treble EQ (0 to 10): Adds high-end sheen.
- High-Pass Filter: Off, or 20 Hz to 1 kHz cutoff.
- Low-Pass Filter: 4 to 20 kHz, or Off.
- Analog Hum (Off, 1, 2, 3): Adds subtle tube-aged hiss.
