Vello BG-S9 Overview

The Battery Grip for Sony a9 III and a1 II from Vello offers extended shooting time and comfort when shooting in a portrait orientation with the Sony a9 III and a1 II mirrorless cameras. It features an alternate shutter release button, AF-ON and AEL buttons, three custom buttons, a multi-selector, front and rear dials, and a third dial that's lockable. This makes the grip ideal for shooting portrait photography. The BG-S9 also includes a convenient control-lock switch to prevent accidentally triggering the grip's controls.

The two-bay battery tray accepts up to two Sony NP-FZ100-type rechargeable batteries for extended runtime without having to stop and change batteries. A strap loop at the top of the grip can be used to attach a hand strap for improved ergonomic hold, and the base has a 1/4"-20 thread for mounting a tripod or quick release plate.

Accepts Two Sony NP-FZ100-Type Rechargeable Batteries
The Vello BG-S9 battery grip accepts two Sony NP-FZ100-type rechargeable batteries to effectively double the runtime of the Sony a9 III and a1 II series mirrorless cameras. Shoot for longer durations without interrupting your workflow, which is especially useful when shooting video content.
Alternate Shutter Release
An alternate shutter release button makes it easy to comfortably shoot in portrait orientation, so you won't have to twist your arm to get the right shot.
Secondary Controls
The BG-S9 provides secondary controls such as front and rear dials, C1 and C2 function buttons, and AF-ON and AEL buttons, as well as a multi-selector joystick. An extra function button (C5) and rear locking dial provide additional customization. Having these familiar controls means your hand will feel comfortable when shooting in portrait orientation.
Control Lock
Quickly lock the secondary controls to prevent accidentally changing settings or firing the camera while shooting in a landscape position.
Strap Mount
The BG-S9 features a strap mount for attaching a hand grip. Protect the camera against drops while running around a photo set or street shooting.
Battery Door Storage Slot
A convenient storage slot located in the grip allows the camera's removable battery door to be safely stored while the grip is installed on the camera body.
1/4"-20 Mounting
The BG-S9 attaches to your camera's tripod socket with a 1/4"-20 mounting screw for a secure fit. A 1/4"-20 tripod socket on the bottom of the grip retains its mounting ability.
Nonslip Grip
A nonslip rubber grip enables enhanced handling when shooting in portrait orientation, even with cold hands.

Vello BG-S9 Reviews

Works but different

It does work but, what's different is that it consumes both batteries at the same time. The Sony Grip consumes one battery at a time. However for $89 I will live with that vs paying Sony over $400 for theirs.
