Bright Tangerine Halo Universal Advanced Kit for Small Cameras (4" Rods)

Great, robust, a few minor annoyances

I picked this up for use with my R5C. I do a lot of tripod to gimbal and back and forth between those configs and also shoot stills so this seemed pretty ideal to keep the camera body de-rigged and available for stripped down shooting or stills. I've loved my BT cage and accessories for my C70 but acknowledge that they are incredibly expensive for what they are. What I've found is it works great for yanking it out and shooting stills very quickly but in practice, the halo ring itself cannot physically get close enough to the camera body in order for it to remain balanced enough to fly on a DJI RS3 Pro gimbal without a ton of cable spaghetti. The DJI dovetailed baseplate itself is so heavy that the camera and whatever lens you have need to be pushed all the way back in order to counter balance on a gimbal. There's no chance of getting the Halo ring itself balanced so that needs to come off. Once that ring comes off, you may as well have just taken the camera off the baseplate and stuck that on the gimbal effectively making the dovetail plate on this pretty useless. A few more nitpicks: the halo ring cold shoe mount is on the right side of the camera but all camera ports are on the left side. This should be reversed so anything mounted with cables running to camera is closer and cleaner. There's also a locking switch on the baseplate that gets covered up by the halo ring when mounted. I cannot for the life of me figure out what the intention of this switch is as it doesn't lock into anything at all. I like it and, like all Bright Tangerine products, it feels incredible and is super robustly built. I need another dozen or so shoots under my belt to see if this was worth it.
