TP-Link C660 Solar Overview

Securely monitor your surroundings with the Tapo C660 Solar-Powered Security Camera Kit from TP-Link. This kit includes a C660 dual-band Wi-Fi camera and a Tapo A201 solar panel for a continuous solar power surveillance solution.
Capture UHD 4K Resolution Video
This IP65-rated camera uses a 1/2.7" progressive scan CMOS Starlight sensor to capture UHD 4K resolution video at 20 fps. IR LEDs deliver up to 40' of night vision. Additionally, dual motion-activated spotlights provide illumination for recording full color video at night and in low-light conditions, while deterring unwanted activity.

The camera features a 4mm fixed lens that provides a 105° diagonal angle of view, a built-in speaker and microphone for two-way audio with noise cancellation, and a reset button. An onboard memory card slot supports microSD cards up to 512GB (available separately). Additionally, optional Tapo Care cloud storage is available for saving recorded videos (subscription required).

Continuous Solar Charging
The solar panel provides continuous charging to deliver power to the camera. 45 minutes of direct sunlight powers the camera for a full day, eliminating the need to recharge the camera's internal lithium-ion battery.

This solar panel is IP65 rated for safe outdoor use.

TP-Link C660 Solar Reviews

Excellent Wide Area Coverage in an Affordable Package

After MUCH research, questions, and comparisons the C660 was purchased over a month ago. It replaces my former Ring Doorbell (which is still there as a distraction) and surveys the entire front (left to right) as well as having enough range to look nearly straight down. I do not use the patrol feature (24/7) so I cannot indicate how that might affect battery status. It's mounted over the front door with the porchlight motion detector just above it. I have it set to track movement and use IR (grayscale) at night to get the longest use of the 128 GB SD card (separate purchase). Being in a position to capture porch pirates, car vandals, utility workers, etc. it's quite handy to have this on solar power and not worry about brown-outs or deliberate disconnections from the power supply. South-facing home catches sunlight from 5-10 hours per day, depending on the season, so no worries about failing battery. Even consecutive rainy days show above 80% power through the next partially clear day. The hardest part of the unboxing and setup was waiting for the battery to charge to full (any USB charging port) before deploying the unit. Total wire run to the solar panel was about 12.8 feet of wire leaving plenty of room for hiding the wire run. Tracking is fast enough to capture anyone approaching from any direction and record on SD so disabling the camera (paint or cover) won't protect anyone from a photo. The phone app is an absolute necessity and makes management quite easy. The TAPO site is also responsive (a few hours) to addressing operational feature questions. The initial setup was done with my Android phone and then 'shared' to my spouse within seconds. 5 shared accesses are allowed. To date, no problems and well worth the price.

Tapo C660 Security Camera

I picked this Consumer Reports 1st place choice for indoor/outdoor cameras to monitor the side corner of my apartment. The solar panel does a fine job keeping battery charged. Setup, mounting, and connecting to WiFi was easy since I already had Tapo's TD25 Video Doorbell (also excellent). I chose the local storage with a SanDisk 512GB High Endurance V30 MicroSD Card. Instead of turning on Pan/Tilt Scanning (not recommended), just pick a few spots to monitor into memory. I leave it looking at one spot! Works perfectly tracking Movement, People, or Animals and then follows them through other zones. What's best is you can define the exact size within each Zone for tracking the above plus Vehicles or sane size for all!!
