7Artisans 35mm f/1.8 AF Overview

An everyday prime designed for mirrorless cameras, the 35mm f/1.8 AF Lens from 7Artisans provides a wide perspective and a bright maximum aperture for creating impressive bokeh. Its comprehensive optical design and aperture work together to promise excellent image quality and reliable performance even in dim lighting conditions. Optical Construction
To reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality, the 35mm f/1.8 AF lens employs one extra-low dispersion element, two high-refraction elements, and two aspherical elements.

A bright f/1.8 maximum aperture helps create pleasing background blur in the out-of-focus areas of your frame, creating a more flattering overall image.

  • Customizable Fn button provides quicker access to your preferred setting.
  • AF/MF switch for easily swapping between auto and manual focusing.
  • Solid metal construction ensures durability and long-term precision.

7Artisans 35mm f/1.8 AF Reviews

Startlingly capable for the price, and a very pleasing form factor

I bought this lens primarily because I wanted an all-round lens that was lighter than my go-to lens, a Vario-Elmarit 24-90 whose virtues are many, but do not include levity... To an extent, this purchase was experimental -- something enabled by the price point because I'd be less likely to spend $1k just to find out. So far, I'm very pleased with the performance and functionality of this nicely-built lens. I've read reviews decrying its "odd-shaped bokeh" -- something that doesn't really trouble me. An unexpected virtue of the lens is its bright f1.8 maximum aperture. I've found myself using the shallow depth of field a great deal; and, speaking of f stops, the nice aperture ring on the body of the lens is a feature I really like. So a majority of the attached images were taken at 1.8. The double-portrait of Jenny on the couch shows 1.8 on the left, and what happens when the lens is stopped down to f5.0. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this, and will keep an eye on 7Artisans' offerings because, based on this sample, they are workmanlike lenses that fill a useful niche in my kit. I wavered between four and five stars but in the end decided that the rating is relative to my expectations, rather than some overall standard of perfection. I'm really happy.

Do you need an adapter to use with the Z50? On a Z50, does the lens then become a 52mm because of the crop sensor?
Asked by: Carl
To use the 7Artisans 35mm f/1.8 AF Lens (Nikon Z), BH #7AAF35F18BZ, on the Nikon Z50 Mirrorless Camera, you do not need an adapter. It is made for the Nikon Z mount. However, it will crop 1.5x, as it is a full-frame lens. The 35mm focal length will be a 52.5mm focal length.
