The 18x50 IS are great for big game hunters, spectators of extremely distant sports such as surfing or extreme skiing, or anyone hunkering for incredible pulling power that can actually be enjoyed without the use of a tripod. Since late 2021 these binoculars are now made in a Canon facility in Taiwan. They are probably even better because Canon tends to improve manufacturing processes as time goes on.

question

Is this the best canon makes?
Asked by: Anonymous
I would have to say yes (in my opinion) these are the best that Canon makes. These are their highest magnification and largest objective lens effective diameter IS binoculars. Our department has purchased 10 pair of these for our Patrollers and field crews.

question

18X in this binoculars equals to how many MM?
Asked by: SING JIANG W.
For a 35mm film camera a 50mm lens is considered normal or 1 power, so 50mm x 18 power would be the same as a 900mm lens.

question

What size lens caps(recommendations welcome) are needed to cover the front and back of the binoculars?
Asked by: William B.
I have the 15x50 Canon IS Binoculars which have the same front objective size (duh). I purchased a pair of high quality 58mm UV filters to screw in to protect the lenses. Then I purchased a pair of Sensei Aluminum 58mm Lens Hoods and screwed them to the outer threads on the filters. These hoods expand to a larger diameter, so I finally covered the front of the hoods with Sensei 62mm Lens Caps. When I use the Binox, I just remove the two lens caps and the covers over the eyepieces, and I'm ready to go. The hoods only add about 3/4" to the length of the Binox. Everything is adequately protected. The hoods cut down on streetlight flare at night, but are not absolutely necessary. You could just put 58mm lens caps on the filters. The only expensive parts are the filters.

Asked by: Anonymous
No. You have to focus manually. The auto stabilising makes it a little easier.
