Panasonic LUMIX S1 II Mirrorless Camera
A Next-Gen Hybrid Powerhouse for Video and Still Creators
Designed for creators who demand exceptional quality in both stills and video, the Panasonic LUMIX S1 II Mirrorless Camera delivers flagship-level performance in a flexible, full-frame body. Featuring a newly developed 24.1MP partially stacked CMOS sensor, high-speed readout, advanced AI autofocus, and a rich set of pro video tools, the S1 II bridges the gap between professional photo capture and cinematic production. Whether you're in studio, on location, or shooting handheld, this hybrid camera is built to adapt, inspire, and deliver.
Advanced Sensor Design for Speed and Precision
At the heart of the S1 II is a new 24.1MP full-frame partially stacked CMOS sensor, delivering faster readout and exceptional low-light performance. Coupled with Panasonic's L2 Engine and Dynamic Range Boost technology, the camera captures incredibly clean, high-detail images across its ISO range-while enabling 96MP handheld high-resolution shooting and HEIF 10-bit file support for enhanced tonal flexibility in stills workflows.
High-Performance Video with Cinematic Control
The S1 II is a robust video tool offering a wide range of recording formats and frame rates, all with 10-bit depth and pro-level color tools:

  • 6K 30p Open Gate (3:2) for multi-aspect flexibility
  • 5.1K 60p 4:3 for immersive documentary or social content
  • C4K and UHD 4K 120p for slow motion and fast action
  • Oversampled 4K video from full-sensor readout
  • V-Log and V-Gamut with 13+ stops of dynamic range
  • Real Time LUT application for custom looks in-camera
  • Dynamic Range Boost for improved highlight and shadow detail
  • Full HDMI output and Frame.io Camera to Cloud support

These features allow hybrid creators to shoot confidently across cinema, commercial, and digital production environments—right out of the box.

Intelligent Autofocus with Subject Recognition
The LUMIX S1 II features a powerful Phase Hybrid AF system enhanced by AI-based subject detection and tracking. It delivers fast, accurate autofocus even when subjects are moving unpredictably or partially obscured.

  • Phase Hybrid Autofocus with 779 focus points
  • Real-time detection of humans, eyes, faces, animals, cars, motorcycles, and more
  • Reliable AF performance in low-light and low-contrast scenes
  • Blackout-free 70 fps burst shooting with continuous AF (AFC)
  • Focus ring direction reversibility and linear/non-linear focus response control

This makes the S1 II a reliable tool for both still and motion capture where critical focus is a must.

Designed for Professional Workflows
With blackout-free 70 fps burst shooting, 8.0-stop 5-axis stabilization, and Active I.S., the S1 II is ideal for handheld shooters and hybrid creators working across genres. It features dual card slots (CFexpress Type B + SD UHS-II), a high-resolution tilting/free-angle LCD, and a durable body tested for cold weather performance down to 14°F. Support for the LUMIX Lab, LUMIX Flow, and Capture One plug-in further extends its utility into professional post workflows and mobile connectivity.

Panasonic LUMIX S 24-60mm f/2.8 Lens (L-Mount)
The Panasonic LUMIX S 24-60mm f/2.8 Lens offers professional performance in a portable form factor, delivering a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout its zoom range. Designed for full-frame L-Mount cameras, this hybrid-ready zoom is built to handle everything from wide-angle landscapes to detailed portraits, with stunning image quality, soft background bokeh, and advanced close-up capabilities. Whether you're shooting stills or high-quality video, it's a compact, reliable tool ready to go anywhere.
Versatile Performance in a Compact Design
Engineered for hybrid creators, its constant f/2.8 brightness ensures consistent exposure and low-light performance across the entire zoom range—from wide 24mm to standard 60mm—making it well suited for landscapes, portraits, street scenes, and handheld video work. Despite its professional optics, it remains remarkably portable at just 1.2 lb and under 4 inches in length. With a minimum focusing distance of just 7.5" and a maximum magnification of 0.3x, the lens excels at capturing expressive close-ups, whether isolating small details with smooth bokeh or incorporating environmental context. When paired with select LUMIX S cameras—including the S1II, S1IIE, S1RII, S5II, S5IIX, and S9—the Hybrid Zoom function can extend focal length digitally up to 187mm, providing added versatility without compromising framing or speed. A standout feature is the dual-function focus ring, which can be reassigned to control aperture or exposure compensation and reversed for a custom feel. Manual focus is supported during zooming, allowing for smooth subject transitions—ideal for videographers. You can also choose between linear mode for mechanical-style consistency or non-linear mode for responsive, speed-based focus shifts. Built with rugged outdoor shooting in mind, the lens is dust-, splash-, and freeze-resistant, and its optics meet the rigorous standards of the L-Mount Alliance for seamless cross-system compatibility.

Panasonic S1II Reviews

Super Dad

By Dameon

So my use case for this is probably a bit different than most. I was looking for a great dad cam and something that I can grow into and use long term. I began with an S9, but the lack of weather resistance and a near $2K price with a Lumix prime lens made that feel a little impractical despite its more compact size. So I next opted to try out the S5II and X as a quick fix to my S9 shortcomings. It mostly worked, but then I thought, why not just check out the newer sensors in the S1II and R for comparison. This was the right decision. The color science of the R is straight up magic, but nothing that can’t be achieved in post or with a custom Lut. I opted for the S1II as it has better color science than the already solid S9, but in my opinion is more versatile than the R because of better rolling shutter performance and more useful video recording options. For fun, I customized all the buttons in one of the custom modes to basically make a supercharged S9 (dedicated Lut button, quick change aspect ratios, hybrid zoom, etc) so I can quickly produce excellent jpgs in a variety of formats without ever needing to enter menu screens.

The image quality is cinematic, robust, and confident, but the real magic happens when you take time to explore the settings and dial it in to your shooting style instead of expecting perfection out of the box. Once you put in that work, this camera doesn’t just perform—it unlocks a level of control and character that makes it hard to put down. BY FAR THE BEST PURCHASE OF THIS YEAR!!!
