I've been using the Elgato 4K S for about two months now and I couldn't be happier. Setup was incredibly straightforward — plug in, install the software, and you're good to go. Both capture at 4K60, but 4K X uses HDMI 2.1 and goes up to 4K144 capture and passthrough with HDR support, making it ideal for high-refresh-rate setups. 4K S uses HDMI 2.0, maxes out at 4K60 SDR capture. If you don't need frame rates above 60fps at 4K, 4K S covers most setups.
