GAMECHANGER AUDIO Motor Pedal Overview

Ever wondered what it would be like if you could use your car's engine as a musical instrument? Meet the Motor Pedal from GAMECHANGER Audio—a carefully calibrated inductor that captures the real-world motion of a brushed DC motor’s spinning coils, transforming pure mechanical energy into raw, electric sound.

The Motor Pedal uses a real-time analyzer to track the pitch output by the chosen instrument. Whether it's vocals, guitar, or bass, the motor's rotational speed will match the fundamental frequency the user plays precisely. To match a 440 Hz input, the motor will rotate at 146 revolutions per second, engaging the magnetic pickup and sensors three times per rotation. Further interesting effects such as drones, harmonics, and distorted soundscapes can be achieved through the variety of selectable parameters. The motor block is a replaceable part with an estimated life of 3000 to 5000 intensive playing hours. Replacement of the motor is easily done at home and does not require professional maintenance.

Synthesis Engines
  • Motor: Raw electromagnetic pickup of the spinning coils (growling and glitchy)
  • MXD: Cross-modulation of the motor with a digital waveform (harsh and distorted)
  • M-Wave: Digital oscillator, pitch-locked and hard-synced to output (multitimbral)
  • Coil Mode: This introduces alternating currents to create resonant analog vibrations and metallic hums (innovative and nostalgic)
  • Vocoder: 24-band digital vocoder uses vocals as the modulator and motor output as the carrier
Parameter Controls
  • Analog Tone Boost: EQ for shaping tonal output
  • Volume (2 knobs): independent volume control for dry signal and motor output
  • Motor Drive: analog distortion for motor output
  • Envelope: adapt output from stabs to envelope follower mode for varying attack and release
  • Glide: applies portamento curve to motor engine
  • Vibrato: classic pitch modulation
  • Motor Interval Selector: offset motor pitch +/-1 octave, perfect fifths or perfect fourths
  • X-Mod: use amplitude modulation to cross-modulate the input signal with all motor engines
Pedal Modes
  • Accelerator: wide range of controlled pitch-shift or floor it to redline
  • Brake: downward pitch-shift, or mash the pedal to stall the motor
  • Clutch: temporarily disconnects motor from pitch-tracker—great for creating drone sounds
  • Volume: uses spring-loaded pedal to create volume swells
  • Drift: gentle vibrato, or floor it for crazier wipe-out effects
