Sonnet Breakaway Box 850 T5 Overview

Maximize your content creation, AI workloads, and gaming experiences with the Breakaway Box 850 T5 Thunderbolt 5 eGPU Expansion System from Sonnet. This powerful desktop enclosure has room for a 13.5" long, triple slot graphics card, which may be linked to your compatible Windows 11 computer or laptop via an 80 Gb/s Thunderbolt 5 host connection.

An integrated dock includes a second Thunderbolt 5 port that provides up to 15W power and allows you daisy chain devices. There are also three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports for 10 Gb/s compatible devices. Use the 5 Gb/s RJ45 Ethernet port for fast connections to compatible wired network devices.

Max Performance
The Thunderbolt 5 host connection can transfer up to 80 Gb/s and supports up to 100W power delivery with compatible laptops.
Quiet and Cool
Mesh side panels and a large variable speed cooling fan helps to maintain optimal temperatures.
Full Power
An 850W power supply is preinstalled inside the enclosure, supporting up to three 8-pin or one 16-pin connection.

I am happy with this purchase. The Sonnet is solid, looks good, and works. My only concern is that the older MSI Suprim GeForce RTX 3090 that I am using does not fit completely. It seems that the connector on the box is closer to the bottom of the case, as this card expects; the metal piece for the video connectors in the back of the card hits the bottom "too soon", not allowing a full insertion of the card. The result is that the card does not fully "click" in, and the connector plate at the back ends up too high to apply the screws to tighten it. It is not terribly bad. I could stabilize it with some tie-wraps, and it has withstood several hours of stress testing without problems, but I didn't want to use more aggressive methods to modify the card or the enclosure. I hope that when I upgrade to a more modern card, I will get a better fit.
