Aimed at discerning musicians and engineers, concert venues, equipment rental houses, and event-production companies, the Neumann MCM 114 STEREO SET UNIVERSAL Cardioid Miniature Clip Mic (MCM) System comes with a pair of versatile pro-grade instrument microphones and a comprehensive set of attachment clips that can be used on a wide variety of acoustic instruments. Elevating electret technology to Neumann standards, the mics deliver a staggering 153 dB maximum SPL to capture the details of both loud and very soft instruments without adding distortion or self-noise. The clips allow the mics to securely mount onto your instruments and the system works for both wired and wireless applications—with connectivity that supports traditional XLR mic preamps for recording in the studio and wireless transmitters for performing live on stage.
The MCM 114 STEREO SET UNIVERSAL system includes two KK 14 cardioid capsule heads and two flexible 6" goosenecks, allowing for precise positioning. There are also two AC 31 cables with 3.5mm locking connectors for connecting the capsules to either the included two MCM 100 48V phantom-powered XLR output-stage modules or to the locking mini-jack inputs found on many Sennheiser wireless transmitters. Additional cables are also supplied for compatibility with third-party transmitters. The system's modular construction is designed to ensure a long service life that lasts for years. Manually assembled in Germany to align with Neumann's high standards, the MCM system delivers first-rate tonal consistency.
The cardioid polar pattern reduces the pickup of other instruments and stage noise, allowing greater gain before feedback, without being as focused and directional as the supercardioid model. Capable of handling an extremely high 153 dB maximum SPL with an ultrawide 130 dB dynamic range, the KK 14 is well suited for close-miking virtually any instrument from bombastic drums to delicate strings.
The MCM 114 STEREO SET UNIVERSAL comes with a comprehensive set of clips designed to reliably mount the MCM's goosenecks on various instruments. The clips are easy to use and designed to prevent damage to sensitive surfaces on the instrument and include:
- Two MC 1 Clips for High Strings
- Two MC 2 Clips for for Cello
- Two MC 3 Clips for Double Bass
- Two MC 4 Clips for Rib of Double Bass
- Two MC 5 Universal Strap Clips for Woodwinds
- Two MC 6 Universal Clamp Clips for Brass
- Two MC 7 Rim Clips for Snare, Tom, and Percussion Instrument
- Two MC 8 Magnetic Clips for Piano
With their locking 3.5mm terminations, the included 6' AC 31 cables can be used to connect the KK 14s to the MCM 100 output stage modules for plugging the mics into a mixing board via XLR. The AC 31 cables can also be used to connect the capsules to wireless transmitters with Sennheiser-compatible mic-input jack.
This set also supplies three more pairs of cables to work with other popular wireless transmitters, including Lectrosonics, Shure, Zaxcom, Wisycom, and others:
- Two AC 32 cables with LEMO 3-pin connectors
- Two AC 33 cables with Microdot connectors
- Two AC 34 cables with 4-pin mini-XLR connectors
