The Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-X2 is a dual-channel microphone activator used to add clean, controllable gain to low-output microphones before they reach your preamp or audio interface. It is designed to improve signal-to-noise ratio, reduce unwanted artifacts, and allow preamps to operate in a more optimal range—making it especially useful when working with gain-hungry microphones and quieter sound sources.
Ultraclean Gain for Low-Output Microphones
In Max mode, the CL-X2 provides up to +36 dB of ultraclean gain, making it well suited for applications such as podcasting, ASMR, acoustic instruments, Foley work, and other low-level sources. A custom CineMag nickel transformer adds dynamic character with wide bandwidth, delivering transformer "vibe" that responds naturally to input level while retaining the clarity of the Cloudlifter core design.
Flexible Gain Control
For louder sources, the selectable output attenuator allows the gain to be reduced by up to 12 dB, enabling use on higher-level applications such as snare drums or loud guitar amplifiers without sacrificing tonal character. The CL-X2 is fully plug-and-play, compatible with dynamic, ribbon, and tube microphones, safe for all passive ribbons, and does not pass phantom power to the microphone.

Built with a rugged, portable, road-ready design, the Cloudlifter CL-X2 is suitable for both studio and live use.
