Infuse your productions with peak '80s vibes with Steinberg FM Lab, a virtual instrument plug-in that offers iconic FM synthesizer emulation, such as the DX7, TX81Z, and modern FM-X. With eight sine-wave operators and a huge array of modulation possibilities, FM Lab offers a completely new dimensions of digital FM synthesis.
FM Lab supports importing preset files from real vintage DX7 and TX81Z hardware. The intuitive Algorithm designer and multi-stage envelopes (which can be freely drawn by hand) provide an enormous array of sonic possibilities while remaining much easier to use than the infamously convoluted and bewildering FM synths of yore. The instrument includes a 32-step arpeggiator with three control lanes, an FX rack loaded with 20 diverse FX types, and 600 layer presets derived from classic FM synths. FM Lab is designed with HALion 7 / HALion Sonic 7 in mind and is available in VST3, AU, and AAX plug-in formats. This plug-in supports macOS and Windows computers.
The result is an outstanding instrument, which combines the best of both worlds, while all the time keeping Yamaha’s original philosophy of "you don’t have to program to play" in mind. FM Lab provides hundreds of cutting-edge presets created by FM experts like Peter Krischker, Stephane Garganigo, Allert Aalders, Richard Veenstra, and Matthias Klag.
Connections are easily established by setting the gain of the junction. Carriers can be panned and all your custom algorithms can be stored as sub-presets.
Design your own or combine up to 48 of the most useful shapes as a starting point. The all-new Shaper mode for envelopes cycles through your drawn multi-stage envelopes, keeping them perfectly synced to the host tempo.
With the three controller lanes, you can modulate the eight operators with cutoff, resonance, and more. It makes designing evolving, vibrant sounds a breeze.
